After a crap shoot of a race at the Roval that saw a bit of everything except good racing, the NASCAR Cup Series playoff field has been cut to 8. Here is a look at the 8 playoff drivers remaining 2022 season statistics, along with ranks among drivers in 2022 with ranking through 32 races since the Chase started in 2004. We will also highlight notable streaks accomplished through the year, 2022 intermediate (1.3-1.5 miles) track statistics and Las Vegas statistics.

Outlook
Chase Elliott was looking to go back to back at the Roval last week before the inability to drive set in for half the field. Nevertheless Elliott still has the best statistics of the 2022 season ranking no worse than 3rd in any 2022 rank above. While he only has 2 Top 10’s in the playoffs this year he does have 6 Stage Top 10’s and a Win. His intermediate races this year and his Las Vegas stats look pretty similar, he does well in stages but when it comes to the end of the races it is either Top 15 or outside the Top 20. Joey Logano does not rank worse than 7th in the 2022 ranks above, but unfortunately for him the 7th’s are in the Top 5 and Top 10 categories. This tells me he’s not been good at finishing between 4th and 10th when not in the Top 3. His playoff stats follow suit as he has 1 Top 3 but only 2 Top 10’s, he is however tied for the most Stage Top 10’s in the playoffs with 8. In the Next Gen car Logano has been very good at intermediate tracks with an average finish of 10.5 and not finishing outside the Top 20. Outlook
The 2022 season has been a bit of a roller coaster for Ross Chastain, early in the season he was the underdog feel good story and then became a bit of a villain. His stats though speak for themselves with 7 Top 3’s, 17 Top 10’s and 6 Stage Wins he has one of the better seasons this year. I see more of the same from Blaney this weekend and him getting a Top 10 with a chance at a Top 5, but Top 3 I don’t see unless something happens to the fastest cars.

Outlook
Denny Hamlin’s 2022 season as a whole is not the best or even close to it really the stats say, however the playoffs have been a different ballgame for Hamlin. Before this weekend he had finished in the Top 10 of every playoff race and 3 of those were Top 5’s. In the playoffs however Hamlin has not been the best in stages as he only has 35 Stage Points. Hamlin does drive a Toyota though and that is a great thing when going to an intermediate track as they have been fast all year on these tracks. Hamlin has especially been strong as he has 4 Top 5’s and 6 Top 10’s on intermediate tracks and in the spring was in the hunt for a win before a wrong shift put him out of the race. Overall at Las Vegas Hamlin has a 13.24 average finish and 13 Top 15’s to only 3 times finishing outside the Top 20. I see more intermediate success for Hamlin this weekend at Vegas as he gets a Top 10 and probably a Top 5 with a shot at the Win if nothing goes wrong.

Chase Briscoe’s 2022 stats say he should not be in the Round of 8 with his only 2022 rank better than 10th being in Poles and Stage Wins, yet here he is. He is here thanks to his 3 straight Top 10’s in the Round of 12, his only streak longer than 1 this year. It seems as if Briscoe is hitting his stride at the right time of the year. Unfortunately for him he hasn’t done well at intermediate tracks this year with only 2 Top 10’s and 4 finishes outside the Top 20. However, his stats were not good for him on road courses either and he ended up with a Top 10 last week. In the spring here Briscoe wrecked out and overall at Las Vegas he only has 3 starts so there isn’t much to go off of. Based on the stats I see Briscoe having a rough day and probably finishing outside the Top 15, but with the streak he is on I wouldn’t rule out him getting a Top 15 and maybe finishing around 10th.
