Fan of the Month – October 2022

PPN is proud to present our first Fan of the Month!

Meet Cindi Peace, our October 2022 Fan of the Month. Cindi follows us on Twitter and was one of quite a lot of you to enter her racing memorabilia collection for consideration as Fan of the Month. Cindi is a 56-year-old NASCAR fan from the great state of Illinois and a self-proclaimed NASCAR nut according to her Twitter profile.

How long have you been a NASCAR fan and what got you into it?

I watched with my dad years ago and remember seeing Richard Petty win the Daytona 500 in 1979 but didn’t really get into the sport until much later. I began watching hard-core around 2000 as a way to spend more time with my husband on race days.

Who is your favorite current NASCAR driver and why?

My favorite current driver is Kevin Harvick because I wanted to root for someone I knew would win races. I also love his “Happy” nickname due to the irony of it. You know when Kevin ain’t “Happy.”

Who is your favorite retired NASCAR driver and why?

I am a huge Kyle Petty fan! He was the first driver I rooted for and it was all because he drove a pretty car. I know, I’m such a girl! LOL As I learned more about Kyle and what he’s done with the Victory Junction Gang Camp, I became an even bigger fan. I admire the way he has been able to turn a personal tragedy into such an incredibly positive experience for children with illnesses. What is your all-time favorite NASCAR moment or race?

One that sticks out for me is the close finish of the 2003 Darlington race between Ricky Craven and Kurt Busch. The excitement of that finish really pushed my interest in NASCAR.

Is there a unique story behind a piece of memorabilia that you own?

I have the trophy that was displayed in the NASCAR Hall of Fame when I won the “M&Ms & NASCARs Most Colorful Fan” contest in 2009. The trophy as well as my Kyle Petty Fan Club t-shirt were displayed for a year at the Hall. We also got to attend the Homestead/Miami race that year as well as the All Star Race in Charlotte. It was an amazing experience and one that I will never forget!

What is your favorite piece in your collection? Why is it your favorite?

My favorite piece in our collection is the trophy I mentioned above. It’s my favorite because it’s truly one-of-a-kind!

About how many items are in your collection?

About 150 die cast cars, lots of other odds & ends.

What is one item that you really want to add to your collection?

I would LOVE to have a piece of sheet metal to add to my collection. [Editor’s note: wouldn’t we all?!]
