Welcome, this is the eighth post of a week and a half series reviewing and rating how each driver in the NASCAR Cup series has done in the 2022 season (min. 15 races started). Each part will contain 3-5 drivers and have them grouped by organization/satellite team or car manufacturer as best as possible. The review will include the drivers 2022 season statistics, along with ranks among drivers in 2022 with season ranking since the Chase started in 2004. We will also highlight playoff stats, notable streaks accomplished through the year, 2022 short track (under 1.0 mile), small track (1.0-1.3 mile), intermediate track (1.3-1.5 mile), big track (2-2.5 mile), road course, superspeedway (drafting tracks) and dirt track statistics. Then I will give a brief summary/review, finally ending with a grade A+ thru F-.
Next up is two Ford teams that showed signs of being really good next year, RFK Racing and Front Row Motorsports.

Summary
Chris Buescher got RFK Racing their first win under new ownership and the first non-restrictor plate win for Jack Roush since 2014. Other than this Buescher’s stats were okay as he had 10 Top 10’s but only 3 Top 5’s and a 17.86 average finish. Buescher was consistent this year though as his playoff average finish of 17.6 was very close to his overall 2022 average. The one win for him came in the playoffs but this was only 1 of 2 Top 10’s, and he also only had 2 Stage T10’s in 20 stages. At tracks this year Buescher was either good at a track style or not good, but there was no in between. His best tracks were without a doubt Road Courses. On Road Courses Buescher tied Chase Elliott for the best average finish with a 9.0 average, he also had 5 Top 10’s in 6 Road Course races. His worst tracks were Big tracks where he had an average finish of 26.67, 0 Top 15’s and 2 finishes outside the Top 20 in 3 races. This year Buescher and RFK as a whole showed flashes of brilliance but was still too inconsistent and not good enough in stages, something that will need to be improved upon next year for them to be a threat week in and week out.

Summary
Brad Keselowski had a rough first season as co-owner of RFK Racing having an average finish of 19.17, 1 Top 5 and 6 Top 10’s and not winning for the first time since 2010. The good news for Keselowski is that he only had 4 DNF’s which was tied for 7th least this year. More good news is that 1 Top 5 I mentioned came in the playoffs, he also had half of his Top 10’s in the final 10 races. Keselowski’s average finish was also helped in the playoffs as he had an 18.4 average which is signs of improvement. In terms of different tracks he was very consistent, in fact if you throw out the Dirt race then all of his track style average finishes are between 18.33 and 21.0. There wasn’t really a strong track or bad track for Keselowski, but his best I’d say were Short tracks as he posed an average finish of 18.8, 3 Top 15’s, 1 Stage Win and 2.0 Stage Pts Per Stage in 5 races. As for his worst I guess you could say it was Small tracks as he had a 21.0 average finish that ranked 28th, 1 Top 15 and only 0.1 Stage Pts Per Stage. This season was about what I expected for Keselowski as he found out exactly how bad Roush has been lately, but with the improvement towards the end of the year there is hope for next year.

Summary
Michael McDowell had a better and more consistent year than what he has in the past, but there is still room for improvement. McDowell had had 2 Top 3’s but only 2 Top 5’s this year, both coming at tracks he is expected to run well, Road Courses and Superspeedways. He also only had 23 Stage Pts, but the good news is he had 12 Top 10’s and a 16.69 average finish showing that he was there at the end of races. More good news is McDowell had the least amount of DNF’s (2) of any full-time driver and 0 in the playoffs. This helped him amount the 11th best average finish the playoffs at 15.11. He did this despite only having 2 Top 10’s and 3 Stage Pts all playoffs long. His best track this year is no surprise as he had a 10.83 (5th best) average finish at Road Courses and 5 Top 10’s in 6 races. His Intermediate success deserves a mention though as he had the 9th best average finish on them at 14.6, and finished Top 15 in 5 of the 10 races. McDowell’s worst tracks were Short/Small tracks accumulating only 1 Top 15 in the 10 races on these tracks. Summary
Todd Gilliland in his rookie season at Front Row Motorsports struggled hard finishing 28th in points and getting an average finish of 23.17. He got 2 Top 10’s but one came at Talladega and the other, which was his only Top 5, was at the Indianapolis crapfest. In the playoffs Gilliland had a 23.2 average finish so he was consistence, just consistently bad. He also didn’t get a single Stage Point in the playoffs. At the different track styles Gilliland was also consistent as his average finish range, besides the Bristol Dirt race, was 22.6 to 24.6. His best track was the Bristol Dirt track, but besides that his best was Road Courses I’d say as he had a 22.83 average finish and his only Top 5 of the season. As for his worst I’d say it was Small tracks as he had a 24.6 average finish and a best of 19th in 5 starts. Gilliland’s season was just not good, but he was only a rookie although even for a rookie it was not good. In his sophomore year he won’t have the rookie excuse and definitely needs to pick it up more than he did this year.
