Welcome, over the next week and a half or so we will be reviewing and rating how each driver in the NASCAR Xfinity series has done in the 2022 season (min. 15 races started). Each part will contain 3-5 drivers and have them grouped by organization/satellite team or car manufacturer as best as possible. The review will include the drivers 2022 season statistics, along with ranks among drivers in 2022 with season ranking since the Xfinity Playoffs started in 2016. We will also highlight playoff stats, notable streaks accomplished through the year, 2022 short track (under 1.0 mile), small track (1.0-1.3 mile), intermediate track (1.3-1.5 mile), big track (2-2.5 mile), road course and superspeedway (drafting tracks). Then I will give a brief summary/review, finally ending with a grade A+ thru F-.
First up is the championship team, Joe Gibbs Racing, drivers and MBM Motorsports driver.

Summary
First off I wanna say our prayers are still with Ty Gibbs after the loss of his father almost a month ago, I am so glad your dad got to see you win the championship. Gibbs made a lot of enemies this year and lost lots of fans with his aggressive actions. With this said he was a deserving champion this year though. Gibbs ranked 1st thru 3rd in every 2022 rank above except DNF’s, and most were 1st or 2nd at that. He had an average finish of 9.15 which ranked 24th for a season since 2016 and was his worst rank in that category, besides DNF’s again. In terms of playoffs Gibbs was even more impressive as his worst finish was 7th, had an average finish of 2.86 and got 6 Top 5’s in 7 races. The Phoenix championship race saw lots of streaks continue for Gibbs, 2 Wins, 3 Top 2’s, 5 Top 5’s and 7 Top 10’s. In terms of tracks Gibbs was good at most tracks but Intermediates were his best. Gibbs had a 5.3 average finish on these with 7 Top 5’s in 10 races and 6.2 Stage Pts Per Stage. His worst track was definitely Superspeedways as even with a win Gibbs only had 1 Top 5 and a 16.0 average finish. Overall this year Gibbs was pretty spectacular, very consistent and a deserving champion. Next year in the Cup Series Gibbs will have big expectations put on him, but those should be tempered based on how he did this year, remember he’s only 20 years old.

Summary
Brandon Jones was one lap away from being in the Championship 4 before getting turned by his teammate, but he didn’t deserve to be in there anyway. Jones had an average finish of 13.36 this year and only 6 Top 5’s. In fact, all of his 2022 ranks above are 6th thru 10th (except Poles), basically Jones was just mediocre all year. In the playoffs Jones had an average finish of 14.43 and even winning at Martinsville would have only made his average 11.28, not much better. Jones also had 0 Top 5’s in the playoffs and his ranks are mostly 5th or worse. Jones’ best tracks this year were Short tracks as this was the only track style where he had an average finish under 10.0. He also had 2 Top 2’s at Short tracks in 4 races including 1 Win, which could have been 2 if the Fall Martinsville race went different. His worst tracks I would say were Superspeedways as this was the only track style he did not have a Top 5. In 6 starts he had 0 Top 5’s, an average finish of 15.0 and a best finish of 7th. Overall this year was mediocre for Jones, and with the success his teammate had was kind of disappointing. Next year at JRM Jones definitely needs better numbers than he got this year for it to be a success.

J.J. Yeley was there this year in the Xfinity Series, that’s about it though. He had a few good runs that I can remember but only ended up with 2 Top 10’s, had 9 DNF’s and a 25.63 average finish in 30 races. He also DNQ’d 2 Road Course races this year as well, but he was in a subpar car so that makes some sense. Yeley’s playoff stats though are pretty bad as he had a 29.86 average finish with 4 DNF’s (2 more than any other driver) in 7 races, other than that Yeley doesn’t have stats for the playoffs though. Just to get more bad vibes out of the way Yeley’s worst tracks were Short tracks. In 4 Short track starts he had an average finish of 32.5, which was worst among those with 3+ starts on Short tracks. On the more positive note Yeley had an average finish of 20.5 on Superspeedways, which was his best track. In 6 starts on these tracks Yeley had 1 Top 10 and 3 Top 15’s for the small team. All in all Yeley had a decent-ish season when you consider what team he was driving for, but still 2 Top 10’s and a 25.63 average finish with 9 DNF’s ain’t great. Assuming Yeley races for MBM next year I see him having about the same sort of results.
