Welcome, this is the second post of a week and a half or so series reviewing and rating how each driver in the NASCAR Xfinity series has done in the 2022 season (min. 15 races started). Each part will contain 3-5 drivers and have them grouped by organization/satellite team or car manufacturer as best as possible. The review will include the drivers 2022 season statistics, along with ranks among drivers in 2022 with season ranking since the Xfinity Playoffs started in 2016. We will also highlight playoff stats, notable streaks accomplished through the year, 2022 short track (under 1.0 mile), small track (1.0-1.3 mile), intermediate track (1.3-1.5 mile), big track (2-2.5 mile), road course and superspeedway (drafting tracks). Then I will give a brief summary/review, finally ending with a grade A+ thru F-.
Next up is the best overall organization this year, JR Motorsports drivers.

Summary
Noah Gragson had the best overall year I’d say as he had 8 Wins and most of his 2022 ranks above are 1st or 2nd. In fact, his average finish of 8.06 was only bested by A.J. Allmendinger. There are too many good stats to talk about, so I’ll just point out that all of his season stats rank 25th or better since 2016 and he tied the most Top 2’s in a season since 2016 at 13. In the playoffs Gragson was still amazing and only bettered by Ty Gibbs. Gragson ranked 1st or 2nd in every non-stage playoff category above, and had a Top 10 in all 7 races which led to the second best playoff average finish at 3.29. This year Gragson had 4 straight Wins at one point which tied Sam Ard for 1st all-time and ended the year with 5 straight Top 5’s and 10 straight Top 10’s. Gragson’s best tracks were Big and Intermediate tracks where he had a 2.0 and 6.3 average finish respectively in 13 races with 5 Wins and 9 Top 2’s. Oh, he also won half of the 26 Stages at these tracks too. His worst tracks this year were Short tracks where had an 11.5 average finish and only 2 Top 15’s in 4 races. Gragson this year was impressive, but next year heading to the Petty-GMS 42 car will be a big test for us all to see how good he actually is.

Summary
Justin Allgaier had yet another solid season in 2022. Unfortunately though for him his teammate stole the show at JRM leaving the veteran 2nd best at JRM and 3rd in points overall. This year Allgaier was the Stage King as he had the most Stage Top 10’s and Stage Points. The rest of his stats aren’t bad either as they are all between 3rd and 8th in the 2022 ranks above. The playoffs were about the same as the 2022 season overall for Allgaier as he had a similar average finish around 10th, and all of his non-stage ranks are between 3rd and 8th (except DNF’s). Allgaier’s track styles fall into two categories, good and not good. 3 of the styles Allgaier had a 6.6 average finish or better and 3 of them he had a 14.25 average finish or worst. His best style though was Small tracks as he had the best average finish (4.0) of any full-time driver, and he got 3 Top 3’s and 4 Top 10’s in the 4 races. As for Allgaier’s worst tracks it was Superspeedways, he had only 1 Top 5 and 2 Top 10’s in 6 races with an average finish of 16.0. All in all Allgaier had a solid season as usual, but nothing that impressive. With 3 of the best Xfinity drivers going to Cup next year Allgaier needs to have better stats than this year.

Summary
In his first full-time Xfinity Series season Josh Berry was pretty impressive amassing 3 Wins, 7 Top 3’s and a 10.79 average finish with only 2 DNF’s. All of Berry’s 2022 ranks above are between 2nd and 6th which shows his consistent season very clearly. In the playoffs Berry wasn’t flashy only having 1 Top 3, but that Top 3 was a win at Las Vegas that got him into the Championship 4. Where Berry struggled in the playoffs was stages as he only had 31 Stage Pts in 7 races (2.21 Stage Pts Per Stage). Berry’s different style of track stats are much like his season, not flashy but consistent as most of his average finishes are between 9.2 and 14.17. His best tracks though were Big tracks as he had a 4.33 average finish in the 3 races and had a worst finish of 6th. An honorable mention is his Intermediate success as he had 7 Top 10’s and 2 Wins in 10 Intermediate races this year. Surprisingly Berry’s worst tracks were Short tracks as he had a 13.25 average finish on them and a best finish of 7th with only 2 Top 15’s in 4 races. All in all Berry’s first full season in Xfinity I see as a success, and definitely something to build off next year where he could easily make the Championship 4 again.

Summary
For a rookie Sam Mayer did not have that bad of a season, even without a win he had an average finish of 13.82. The key for Mayer was consistency as he had only 4 DNF’s and had 19 Top 10’s. Another sign pointing to his consistency is that all of his 2022 ranks above are between 5th and 12th. The playoffs was even better as he had a 10.43 average finish and 5 Top 10’s with 0 DNF’s in 7 races, so while they aren’t super impressive he stayed on track which is good. Speaking of tracks his best tracks this year were without a doubt Short tracks as he had an average finish of 4.5, this was only bettered by John Hunter Nemecheck who only ran 1 race on a Short track. Furthermore on Short tracks Mayer had a best of 3rd and worst of only 6th in the 4 races this year. His worst tracks also leave no doubt with their stats as he had an average finish of 24.83 at Superspeedways. While Mayer did have his only Top 2 at the only Superspeedway race in the playoffs that was his only Top 20 finish. Overall Mayer had a good year this year for a rookie, and if he builds on it next year could be a contender for wins on a regular basis.
