Welcome where ya been! This is the ninth and last post of a week and a half or so series reviewing and rating how each driver in the NASCAR Xfinity series has done in the 2022 season (min. 15 races started). Each part will contain 3-5 drivers and have them grouped by organization/satellite team or car manufacturer as best as possible. The review will include the drivers 2022 season statistics, along with ranks among drivers in 2022 with season ranking since the Xfinity Playoffs started in 2016. We will also highlight playoff stats, notable streaks accomplished through the year, 2022 short track (under 1.0 mile), small track (1.0-1.3 mile), intermediate track (1.3-1.5 mile), big track (2-2.5 mile), road course and superspeedway (drafting tracks). Then I will give a brief summary/review, finally ending with a grade A+ thru F-.
Last up two teams that have ties to one driver this year, DGM Racing drivers and B.J. McLeod Motorsports drivers.

Summary
Alex Labbe’s 2022 season was not too bad as he posted a 20.23 average finish with 3 Top 10’s and 24 Stage Pts, unfortunately for him he also had 5 DNF’s though in 26 races and a couple of DNQ’s. The playoffs went much better for Labbe even though he had 1 DNQ. In the playoffs Labbe’s average finish of 13.5 was 12th best of any driver with 3+ starts and he finished all 4 races he started. One of the races even ended in a season best 6th place finish for him. In terms of track success his best tracks were Superspeedways. In 4 races Labbe averaged a 15.5 finish, had 1 Top 10, 2 Top 15’s and only 1 finish outside the Top 20. Labbe wasn’t too shabby at Short tracks and Road Courses as well getting 2 Top 10’s and 6 Top 15’s in his 10 races on these tracks. Labbe’s worst tracks were most definitely Big tracks as in the 3 races here he had a best finish of 24th and an average finish of 29.0 with 1 DNF. I feel Labbe has enough talent to where if could get better rides he’d contend for the playoffs, but as it is his 2022 season was decent. Next year I’d assume he is back with DGM and if so I expect about the same sort of results, maybe a little better.

Summary
Mason Massey’s first season with DGM Racing was a tough one. Massey amassed a not so good average finish of 26.5 in 24 races, and accumulated only 2 Top 10’s while a 1/4th of his races ended in a DNF. The playoffs were even worse for him as his best finish in 6 races was 25th and his average finish of 32.33 ranked 40th of 41 drivers that made 3+ starts in the playoffs. In terms of tracks styles this year Massey was not good at any of them, his best track however was Small tracks. At Small tracks Massey had 1 Top 15 in 4 races, a 9th at Loudon, with an average finish of 24.75. His worst tracks were Intermediates where in 8 races Massey got 0 Top 15’s, 6 finishes outside the Top 20 and average finish of 27.0. Overall Massey struggled pretty bad this year and I would assume he would be back at least part-time for DGM next year. If this is the case I see about the same results coming for him.

Summary
Josh Williams’ switch from DGM to BJM this year turned out not to be a good one as his average finish of 25.82 was his worst since 2018. Even though he switched back to DGM for the final 10 races that average was only 25.4. In addition to his bad average finish Williams also had 9 DNF’s in his 28 races. The 7 playoff races were also not good for him as his average finish decreased to 26.14 in the playoffs. There is not really much good to say about Williams’ season so lets move on to the track stats. His best tracks this year were Small tracks where he had a 24.75 average finish and got his only Top 15 of the year, a 15th place finish at the season finale in Phoenix to go out on a high note. Williams’ worst tracks were Intermediates where he averaged a 28.33 finish. In addition he had 8 of his 9 starts end up outside the Top 20 and his only Top 20 was a 20th place finish. Overall 2022 was a year to forget for Williams and his fans but I see it as an anomaly. If he can get back with DGM or similar team then I think we will see him get a better average finish with at least 1 Top 10 next year.

Summary
Matt Mills had the worst season of anyone with 15+ Xfinity starts this year and his average finish is proof of that. Mills averaged a 28.94 average finish this year, last of all drivers with 15+ starts, and half his starts resulted in a DNF. In fact his 9 DNF’s were tied for the most this year. The playoffs weren’t much better as his average finish in the 4 races he raced was 29.5. Mills’ track stats aren’t much prettier either as his best average finish on any track style was 26.5. That average finish was at both Short and Small tracks, but his best of these were Short tracks where in his 2 starts he had only 1 finish outside the Top 20 and that 1 was a DNF. His worst tracks this year were Big tracks, where he had an average finish of 30.5 in 2 starts with a best of 23rd. Superspeedways were also not good for Mills as he didn’t finish any of the 5 races he started. Overall this season just plain sucked for Mills and his worst average finish in any season that he started 9+ races. Next year I would expect Mills to be either back with B.J.’s team or out of the Xfinity series, if he is back with B.J. then I would expect a little more than what he did this year.
