Welcome, this is the sixth post of a week and a half or so series reviewing and rating how each driver in the NASCAR Truck series has done in the 2022 season (min. 10 races started). Each part will contain 3-5 drivers and have them grouped by organization/satellite team or truck manufacturer as best as possible. The review will include the drivers 2022 season statistics, along with ranks among drivers in 2022 with season ranking since the Truck Playoffs started in 2016. We will also highlight playoff stats, notable streaks accomplished through the year, 2022 short track (under 1.0 mile), small track (1.0-1.3 mile), intermediate track (1.3-1.5 mile), big track (2-2.5 mile), road course, superspeedway (drafting tracks) and dirt track statistics. Then I will give a brief summary/review, finally ending with a grade A+ thru F-.
Next up is a team that had one driver in the playoffs and the others were far off from that, Niece Motorsports Drivers.

Summary
Carson Hocevar was pretty good this year with 3 Top 2’s and 5 Top 3’s, but had 0 Wins unfortunately. Apart from the 5 Top 3’s though he only acquired 7 other Top 10’s which led to his average finish being 12.65. The playoffs for Hocevar were not too great as he had 1 Top 2, but that Top 2 was his only Top 5 finish of the playoffs. He also only acquired 3 Top 10’s in the 7 races which led to his average finish being 14.57, which was the worst average of any of the playoff drivers. With all this said you have to admire his ability to drive around with a broken leg for most of the season though, which may have accounted for his lackluster playoff performance. The good news for Hocevar is he was pretty good on Intermediates this year getting 2 Top 2’s, 4 Top 5’s and 7 Top 15’s in 8 races. Hocevar’s worst tracks were Superspeedway’s where he only got 1 Top 10 in 3 races, and the other 2 finishes were outside the Top 20 leading to a 21.33 average finish. All in all Hocevar had a pretty decent season, especially considering the injury he was dealing with. Next year with the last couple years under his belt I see Hocevar getting his elusive first win and getting to at least the Round of 8.

Summary
Lawless Alan’s 2022 season was not that good. Alan recorded only 1 Top 15 finish this year, an 11th at COTA, which led him to getting a 24.22 average finish that ranked 26th of 31 drivers to start 10+ races. Another bad part of his year was the stages as he did not record even one Stage Point this year. The playoffs were even worse than 2022 as a whole for Alan, his best finish in the 7 playoff races was 18th in the finale at Phoenix. What’s worse for him is that in those 7 races he had 2 DNF’s and 4 finishes outside the Top 30 which led him to getting a pathetic 28.14 average finish. The one bright spot for Alan this year at tracks was Small tracks, in the 2 races on Small tracks this year he finished 18th both times which gave him his best average finish of any track style. While most tracks were bad for Alan there is one that sticks out like a sore thumb, Superspeedways. In 3 races on Superspeedways this year Alan DNF’d in all 3 which gave him a 30.33 average finish. Overall this year Alan was bad and one of the worse drivers, only getting 1 Top 15 is the proof. I haven’t heard what Alan is doing next year, but if unless he gets a top-notch ride I don’t see much better things for him in 2023.

Summary
Dean Thompson had a similar season to his teammate above Lawless Alan, the only differences are he had 4 Top 15’s instead of 1, 5 DNF’s instead of 4, a worse average finish at 25.17, and had 7 Stage Points instead of 0. So he pretty much gets the same grade because of all that. In the playoffs he and his teammate matched exactly in the playoffs stats above as he had a 28.14 average finish with 2 DNF’s as well. They do differ in the fact that Thompson got 0 Top 20’s in the playoffs with his best finish being 21st at Phoenix. Even in track styles they were similar as Thompson’s best tracks were Small tracks and his worst were Superspeedways. At Small tracks Thompson had a 17.5 average finish with 1 Top 15 in 2 races, while at Superspeedways Thompson DNF’d in all 3 races just like his teammate above. In fact Thompson’s average finish of 34.67 at Superspeedways was the worst for any driver that races 2 times on these tracks. All in all there wasn’t much good this year for Thompson, but he can take solace that his teammate was just as bad. Next year I see Thompson doing more of the same if he is back at Niece or a similar ride.

Summary
Kris Wright only raced in the first 17 truck races this season before leaving to compete in the Xfinity Series for most of the rest of the year. However the 17 truck races this year for Wright were the opposite of wright side up. In the races he ran he got only 1 Top 15, 4 DNF’s, 0 Stage Top 10’s and had an average finish of 25.53 which ranked 3rd worst of anyone with 10+ starts this year. Wright only ran 1 race in the playoffs and finished 31st, so not much to say except that one race was bad. All 7 of Wright’s track style averages are 20.0 or worse and 3 are 30.5 or worse. That 20.0 average was at Superspeedways where in his 2 races he finished 19th and 21st. In terms of his worst track I’ll let you choose. At Short tracks Wright had 2 starts with a 30.5 average finish and a best of 30th. In his 1 Small track start he finished 33rd, which made his average finish 4th worst of anyone to start on a Small track. Then in his 2 Dirt track starts he averaged a 30.5 finish, worst of anyone who ran both races. In total Wright’s 3/4th of a season was very bad, and his Xfinity starts weren’t impressive either. Next year no matter where he ends up I unfortunately don’t see much success for him.
