Man, it’s great to have IndyCar back in action! I find myself seeking out any videos I can find currently to get a chance to get my dose of racing. And as stated in my previous article, there are many stories to follow. But the story for the first session was Andretti.
Colton Herta and Kyle Kirkwood managed to finish the session 1-2. Kirkwood, the newest member of the Andretti Autosport IndyCar team, was a mere 0.0933 second behind Herta, the youngest yet most tenured Andretti driver. Simon Pagenaud managed to finish P3, meaning it was all Honda at the top. Pagenaud seems confident that Meyer Shank Racing worked hard over the offseason to reduce some of the tire wear issues that had previously plagued the team.
Rinus VeeKay led the Chevrolet brigade in the fourth position. The Dutch driver aims to return to victory lane in 2023 after a relatively mediocre 2022 season, the highlight being a podium and pole position at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama.
Josef Newgarden was relegated to a fifth-position finish for the first session of the 2023 IndyCar season. He said his primary goal for this year is to have the championship locked up as early as possible.
