A lot of the struggles last year can be attributed to his uncharacteristically bad season on drafting tracks. In the 6 races last year Hamlin only had 1 Top 15 with a best finish of 5th and a 23.17 Avg. Finish, which ranked 30th. His Avg. Driver Rating tells a better story however as his 78.55 Rating ranked 13th. At the Daytona rain race Hamlin finished 3rd in Stage 2 and ran 86.86% of his laps inside the Top 15, but ultimately got wrecked by rain and finished 25th. Now to his Daytona stats, Hamlin has a 16.76 Avg. Finish with 3 Wins, 8 Top 3’s and 11 Top 5’s in 34 races. In addition Hamlin has a 88.59 Avg. Outlook
Ryan Blaney may have done bad in the last Daytona race but he is notable because of just how good his overall Superspeedway stats were last year. Last year Blaney had 0 Wins but still sported the 4th best Avg. Finish (13.61) and 3rd best Avg. Driver Rating (92.84). Blaney’s Stage stats are what really what helped him though as was Top 4 in all Stage stats in the 2022 ranks above. The year ended on a high note as Blaney rides a 2 race Top 3 streak. Blaney’s bread and butter last year were Superspeedway tracks where he had a 9.0 Avg. Finish with 3 Top 5’s and 5 Top 15’s. In addition he had the 2nd best Avg. Driver Rating at 94.43 and completed over 99% of the laps on Superspeedway tracks last year. His worst of these was at the Daytona rain race where he wrecked early but was able to ride around to a 15th place finish. However, Blaney is good at Daytona overall as shown by his 18.13 Avg.
