Outside The Track– Daytona edition

This is a new weekly series aimed at highlighting activities, points of interest and places to eat while fans are in town for race weekends. When I go to a race, a lot of the time I plan a vacation around it. I’m sure plenty of others do the same thing. While we all would love racing action 24/7, that isn’t feasible. Plus- hello rain delays! Multiple times races have been bumped a day due to weather and I suddenly have unexpected free time. What can we do to fill in the gap? I’m here to give you the answers!

The curated lists come from PPN staff, NASCAR insiders (drivers, crewmen and media members) and fans. Keep an eye out on our social media platforms, we might be asking for your suggestions once in awhile!

Of course it’s a given if you go to Daytona for a race- hit the beach! But did you know you can drive on the beach? Not as fast as the cars that originally raced on Daytona Beach, enjoy a leisurely 10 MPH stroll. Cars are permitted on certain sections of the beach sunrise to sunset, all you have to do is pay a day fee to come and go on the beach as much as you want. More info can be found here https://www.daytonabeach.com/things-to-do/beaches/driving-on-the-beach/

North of Daytona Beach you will find Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens in Ormond Beach, FL. Founded after WWII to honor our veterans, the museum and gardens seek to inspire individuals thru art and nature. Admission is free, donations are appreciated. https://www.ormondartmuseum.org/

For the adventurous race fan, west of Daytona in Deland, FL you will find Skydive Deland. Whether you are a first time skydiver or an experienced pro, they have options for everyone( as long as you are 18 years old). https://skydivedeland.com

If you’re hungry, here are suggestions for places to grab some great food.

Racing’s North Turn in Ponce Inlet, FL. South of Daytona and beachfront, it is located along the location where the first NASCAR sanctioned stock car and motorcycle racing took place from 1948-1958. Variety of food options

Aunt Catfish’s On the River in Port Orange, FL. Southern food and seafood with river view.

Miller’s Ale House in Daytona Beach. Pub style restaurant with variety or food options and large selection of tap beers.
