I have picked 8 notable drivers to look at, 1 based on the 2022 point standings, 2 based on 2022 stats, 2 based on Superspeedway stats, 1 based on the last Daytona race and 2 based on their overall Daytona stats. Here is a look at those 8 notable drivers 2022 season statistics, along with ranks among drivers in 2022 with ranking through 33 races since the Chase started in 2016. We will also highlight notable streaks accomplished through last year, 2022 Superspeedway track (drafting tracks) statistics and Daytona statistics.

Outlook
Justin Allgaier finished 3rd in the 2022 Xfinity Points and is notable because of his points position last year. Everything in the 2022 ranks above is 5th or better except his DNF’s, Poles, and Completed Laps%, in fact his Stage Points and Stage T10’s ranked 1st. When considering 3 of his main competition is moving to Cup it’s very possible his stats could be even better this year. Coming into Daytona Allgaier is riding a streak of 5 straight Top 10’s as well, but looking at his 2022 Superspeedway stats 6 straight doesn’t look promising. In 6 Superspeedway starts last year Allgaier had only 2 Top 10’s with an Avg. Finish of 16.0. He did have 4 Top 15’s however and the only races not in the Top 15 were DNF’s. Last year in the Fall Daytona race Allgaier finished Top 10 in both stages but wound up 15th at the end of the race, he did have a Driver Rating of 104.8 in his favor though. This race was pretty indicative of how Allgaier usually runs at Daytona as his Avg. Finish is 16.71 and he has run 70.59% of his laps in the Top 15. His 8 DNF’s to 13 Top 15’s ratio shows that if he finishes the race he will get a Top 15 as well. So with all that said expect Allgaier to be running Top 15 most the day and if he doesn’t wreck out he’ll get a Top 15, but I don’t see anything better than 5th for him at the end of the day.

Outlook
Josh Berry made the Championship 4 for the first time and is notable because of how well his stats were last year. Every single stat in the 2022 ranks above are 7th or better for Berry and his 10.79 Avg. Finish and 96.3 Avg. Driver Rating were good enough for 5th best. Berry also collected more Wins (3) than DNF’s (2), which is good for someone in their first full season. Most of Berry’s success however did not come at Superspeedways where in 6 races he had only 2 Top 10’s and 3 Top 15’s leading to a 14.17 Avg. Finish. The positive is that Berry had 3 Stage Wins and only 1 DNF, the rest of his finishes were 20th or better. One of those was an 18th place finish at Daytona last Fall where Berry ran Top 15 for 63.48% of the race but couldn’t stay there. This did help his Driver Rating however giving him a 92.7 Driver Rating for the race. That race is about what has happened to Berry at Daytona, in 3 races he’s never finished better than 16th even though he had been in the Top 15 for 70.5% of the laps he ran. Good news is that Berry has completed 94.17% of laps here so if he can stay in the race he might get a Top 15. That’s exactly what I expect from Berry this weekend, I see him Top 15 all day and then getting his first Top 10 as long as he doesn’t get in a wreck.

Outlook

Hill’s Completed Laps% was 99.19% which is important for rookies to get track time and he did that, in addition he also had an 11.0 Average Finish and a 94.67 Avg. Driver Rating, both ranking 6th. At Superspeedways Hill was really good and was where he got both of his wins. In addition to the 2 Wins he had 1 other Top 3 finish and 3 other Top 15’s. He wasn’t just there at the end either, he ran in the Top 15 for 91.83% of the laps he ran and completed 98.27% of the laps in the 6 Superspeedway races. In the Fall race here he scored a 14th place finish, was in the Top 15 for 62.71% of the laps he ran, finished 2nd in Stage 1 and had a 93.7 Driver Rating. Overall here at Daytona Hill has raced 3 times and all 3 races have finished differently as he’s finished 35th, 1st and 14th. He does have a 87.57 Avg. The only thing I can say for sure about Hill this weekend is he’ll be near the front for a lot of the race, where he’ll finish is a guess though and I guess just inside the Top 15.

His stats honestly weren’t super impressive but he was next on my list for picking based on 2022 stats. Jones had an Avg. Finish of 13.36 last year which ranked 8th and his 93.67 Avg. Driver Rating ranked 7th. In fact most most his 2022 ranks above are 6th or worse, which will need to be improved upon as he is at JRM this year. For his sake I hope his JRM days at Superspeedways are better than his time at JGR because his best Superspeedway finish last year was 7th. His Avg. Finish and Avg. Driver Rating was okay at 15.0 and 86.7 respectively, but his worst stat is that he only led 0.25% of the laps he ran and that means he wasn’t finishing or running up front. Last year at the Fall Daytona race though he did run in the Top 15 for 64.91% of the laps he ran but ended up finishing 20th. This is about average for Jones here at Daytona as his Avg. Finish is 19.36 and he has ran in the Top 15 only 60.28% of the laps he’s ran here. Another bad stat for him here is that he only has 1 Top 3 and 6 Top 15’s in 33 race. Daytona is simply not good for Jones and even with his new team I don’t see much difference ahead, based on the stats I see Jones being mid-pack in the race and finishing around 20th.

Outlook
Riley Herbst is notable because of his prowess on Superspeedways last year. Overall last year Herbst had done better than in previous seasons and was a backend Top 10 driver as is proof by his stats. Herbst’s best 2022 rank above were Top 10’s and Poles where he ranked T6th in both. His 20 Top 10’s are what propelled him into the playoffs though and helped him achieve a 13.03 Avg. Finish despite having a best finish of 3rd. What also helped Herbst have a good season was his 6 Superspeedway races. In these 6 races Herbst amassed a 8.33 Avg. Finish, ran 69.01% of his laps in the Top 15, had an Avg. Driver Rating of 93.55, a Top 15 in all 6 races and completed every single lap last year. Despite completing every lap Herbst still struggled to be up front as his best finish was 4th and only led 0.25% of the laps. In the Fall Daytona race Herbst ran in the Top 15 in over 75% of the laps though and ended up 15th after finishing 3rd in Stage 2. This was pretty much spot on for Herbst’s here, in his 7 races here he has a 15.57 Avg. Finish and 9 Stage Top 10’s. Furthermore Herbst’s only times finishing outside the Top 20 here are when he DNF’s, so as long as he stays on track a Top 20 is likely. After seeing his improvement last year I expect Herbst to be up front in the Top 10 most the night and probably finishing around 5th or 15th, no in between.

Finish and as many DNF’s as Top 10’s (5). Clements did have 1 Win though and that helped propel him into the playoffs. Overall at Superspeedways last year Clements wasn’t all that impressive as he had a 22.5 Avg. Finish which ranked 34th of 63 qualified drivers. His Avg. Driver Rating of 60.08 also ranked 34th and his win at Daytona last year was his only Top 15 at a Superspeedway. In the Fall race last year here Clements started in the Top 10 and finished 1st but he was in the Top 15 for only 21.19% of his laps and got 0 Stage Points. Overall this is semi-typical for Clements as he has only has 1 Stage T10 and has only ran in the Top 15 for 19.41% of his laps ran here. Clements however usually doesn’t finish well here as he only has 3 Top 10’s and 7 Top 15’s in 25 races here. To go along with that he also has 14 finishes outside the Top 20, with only 6 DNF’s. This weekend it is clear Clements will not be running anywhere near the front for most of the race, if there is carnage though I could see Clements inside the Top 15 and maybe Top 10 at the end of the night. Outlook
Kaz Grala is notable because of his Daytona stats, specifically his Avg. Finish at Daytona. Last year Grala ran only 10 Xfinity races and in those 10 races he accumulated 1 Top 5, but that was his only Top 10 though. Grala only ran 18.57% of his laps in the Top 15 and his Avg. Finish was a less than stellar 24.7. He ran the Spring Talladega race last year and that was his lone Superspeedway start. In this race he ran 35.92% of his laps in the Top 15 and ended up with a 29th place finish. He didn’t race here at Daytona last year but in the 2 starts he has made here in his Xfinity Series career he finished 4th and 5th. This gives him an Avg. Finish of 4.5 which is the best of any driver who made a start last year. His Avg. Driver Rating here is 77.95 which isn’t too shabby, but he also has only ran 32.66% of his laps in the Top 15 which isn’t that good either. This shows that Grala prefers to hang back before mixing it up late in the going. With Grala running the full season this year for the first time in his career I see his year starting off good. While Grala probably doesn’t make a lot of noise early but watch out for him late and I predict he starts the year off with a solid Top 10 finish.
