The first 2 weeks of the NASCAR season have been plagued by weather issues, however Zane Smith is the lone driver to win based on a rain delay. Driver Rating on the season, good enough for 5th best. Unfortunately Crafton ended up 9th at the end of the race though, so how is he 2nd in points? At Intermediate tracks last year Crafton had a best finish of 5th, and that was his only Top 5, but Crafton did have 6 Top 10’s which helped him average a 10.13 finish that was good for 8th best. Unfortunately his Avg. Driver Rating wasn’t as good, his 85.39 rating was only good for 15th best and to make it worse he only led 0.44% of his laps ran. Outlook
Tanner Gray is notable because of how well he did in last years race at Las Vegas. Two weeks ago Gray finished 2nd at Daytona after finishing 8th in Stage 1. In total Gray’s Avg. Finish this year ranks 2nd (duh) and his 106.6 Avg. Driver Rating is 3rd (not so duh). His Laps in Top15% is not as pretty though, at 55.7% this stat ranks T12th on the 2023 season thus far. In addition Gray only acquired 3 Stage Pts in the race as well. This did however extend Gray’s Top 10 streak to 2 races now but that streak may come to an end if Las Vegas is similar to his 8 Intermediate races last year. In these 8 races Gray had 2 Top 10’s and only ran 57.5% of his laps inside the Top 15. As a matter of fact Gray’s Avg. Finish of 19.75 ranked 25th best and his 70.85 Avg. Driver Rating was only good enough to rank 20th. To make matters worse Gray had half of his finishes at Intermediates end up outside the Top 20, however there is good news. Grant Enfinger is notable because of his 2023 stats thus far. At Daytona Enfinger finished 5th after being in the Top 15 for 91.14% of the race leading to a 97.8 Avg. Driver Rating on the season. The only real bad stat for Enfinger is his 4 Stage Pts, what makes that even worse is that he got 2 Stage T10’s and still only has 4 Stage Pts to show for it. Don’t expect the stage stats to change this weekend either as in 8 Intermediate races last year Enfinger only had 1.63 Stage Pts Per Stage. Other than this Enfinger had 3 Top 3’s and 4 Top 5’s, but unfortunately his 4 races outside the Top 5 were also outside the Top 10. All in all Enfinger ended up with an 11.63 Avg. Finish (12th best) and a 88.35 Avg. Driver Rating (13th best). At the Las Vegas race last year the simple stats show Enfinger wasn’t that good as he finished 23rd, led 0 laps and got 0 Stage Pts. In 2 races Busch finished 2nd and 7th with 94.58% of his laps ran inside the Top 15. His 4.5 Avg. Finish last year on Intermediates was the best of any driver and his 114.45 Avg. Driver Rating was 2nd best. Busch also led 11.19% of the laps he ran last year, but a surprising stat to me is that he didn’t win any of the 4 stages he competed in. One of his Intermediate races was here at Las Vegas where he originally finished 3rd before Zane Smith’s disqualification. In the race he led almost a quarter of the laps, ran 97.76% of the laps inside the Top 15, and to top it off he had the best Driver Rating at 134.3. Overall Busch has been spectacular in his 6 races here as he has won half his races and only finished outside the Top 2 once (that once was his first Vegas race in 2001). In addition Busch has a 139.9 Avg. Driver Rating, has won half the stages he’s competed in here, and led 39.22% of his laps ran here. The Truck race this weekend is Busch’s to lose, essentially if he doesn’t win then it’s a disappointment.
