Outside The Track: COTA

Outside the Track- COTA

I’m going to be completely upfront with you all- I have never been to Austin, not even the state of Texas. Because of that, this week’s points of interest and food suggestions all came from friends of mine that live in the Austin area or did live there in recent years. If you are going to COTA this weekend- have a fantastic time!

ATTRACTIONS

  • Austin Duck Adventures
Great fun for 1st time tourists! The 75 minute tours take you around downtown Austin to see the sights by land and water. Find out more info at https://austinducks.com/
  • Lake Travis Zipline Adventures
About an hour away from COTA in Volente, TX you will find a fun way to spend a day if you have the extra time. Lake Travis Zipline Adventures is a 1 price ticket for private beach access, boat rides, hiking trails and ziplines thru the forest and over Lake Travis. I was told it’s a great way to add a little thrill to your vacation!

  • Lyndon Johnson State Park and Historic Site
A little over an hour west of COTA you will find the LBJ Historical Park in Stonewall,TX. Entry is free because it is a state park- so plus right there! The park tells the story of our 36th President beginning with his ancestors to his final resting place that you can see during the tour. The park gives the most complete picture of any American President by showing you his childhood home, adult home dubbed the Texas White House and his burial site. It is still a working farm so look for all the longhorns!

RESTAURANTS

  • Stubbs Bar-B-Q
Located in downtown Austin, it is the place to chow down on fantastic brisket. They also offer a Sunday Gospel Brunch that is a big hit with locals.
  • Salty Sow
Near downtown Austin, I was told it’s a bit pricey, the wait for a table can be long at times, but the food is phenomenal. A friend said you don’t want to miss their duck fat fries or Brussel sprouts salad!
  • Cucina on 35th
If you’re looking for Italian, this is the place! Located in North Austin, this little hole in the wall restaurant has a semi- small menu but delivers big flavor! You won’t be disappointed.
