Outside the Track– Las Vegas

What is there to say about Las Vegas? Pretty sure it’s a city that never sleeps. You will never be at a loss of things to see. Seriously, I think there may be a million things to do there. Young or old, gambler or not- there is something that appeals to everyone. That makes it a great place to explore when you aren’t at the racetrack.

You don’t need to be a high roller to feel like you are one while you are there. Las Vegas is quite affordable once you are there. With decent budget friendly hotels, plenty of free and low cost options for entertainment, and more restaurants than you can count- if you ever make it to Las Vegas, you won’t be disappointed. Here is a VERY short list of some things to fill your time when you aren’t watching the best racers on track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

SIGHTS AND SHOWS

  • Any Cirque du Soleil show! There are a couple, all sound amazing and have great reviews. Make sure to book quick because they sell out a lot!
  • Watch the fountain show in front of the Bellagio Hotel. This is probably the most mentioned attraction when I started going over all the suggestions given to me. Totally free- just stand out on the sidewalk and wait for it to start. You won’t have to wait long- they do a show every 15 or 40 minutes depending on the time of day.
  • High Roller Las Vegas Strip Observation Wheel at the Linq Hotel – I was told to make sure you ride it at night because the views both directions on the Las Vegas strip all lit up are phenomenal
  • Blue Man Group show – Highly entertaining for all ages and you just might walk away converted to blue being your favorite color. 😉
  • Hoover Dam – About 45 minutes away from the strip, a fun little day trip to Boulder City. Great photo opportunities and you can pay for tours that take you down in the dam tunnels!

RESTAURANTS

  • Gallagher’s Steakhouse in the New York New York hotel – I was told expensive, but well worth it for a 1 time experience.
  • Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen – Based on the TV show- pricey but I was told sometimes you have to “go big or go home in Vegas”. Everyone recommended the Beef Wellington.
  • Crepe Expectations – Located about 15 minutes from the prime downtown section of Vegas Blvd, this restaurant has been featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. Reasonably priced with a huge selection of sweet and savory crepes that you can watch the cooks make thru glass partitions.
  • Tacos El Gordo – Late night Mexican for when you lost big at the poker table!
