I have picked 8 notable drivers to look at, 1 based on the 2023 point standings, 2 based on 2023 stats, 2 based on Superspeedway Track stats, 1 based on the last Atlanta race and 2 based on their overall Atlanta stats. Austin Hill could be notable for any reason but the reason he is notable for this article is because of how he ran in the last Atlanta race. Last week at Phoenix Hill was near the front all day but ended up 7th. This was Hill’s worst finish of the season which has his Avg. Finish at 3.75, tied for best this year. The numbers only get better too as in the last 7 drafting races Hill has the 6th best Avg. Finish at 8.57 and the best Avg. Driver Rating at 116.9. To add to this he has also won 3 of the 7 races and led 33.33% of the laps he’s ran in them as well. If that’s not enough to show how good he’s been then maybe his 6.43 Stage Pts Per Stage and 4 Stage Wins in those 7 races will be enough. One of those Stage Wins came at the last Atlanta race when Hill won Stage 2 and went on to win the race. In doing so he led 45% of the laps and only ran 1 lap outside the Top 15 ending with a 139.9 Driver Rating. This was Hill’s second start here but his Avg. Finish is 1.5 as he finished 2nd and 1st in those 2 starts. In addition his 97.01% of laps run in the Top 15, 121.95 Avg. Driver Rating, and 29.85% of laps led all rank 2nd among active drivers. John Hunter Nemechek is notable because of his impressive 2023 stats are thru 4 races. Last week Nemechek was the worst of the JGR cars finish wise as he came home 6th which tied his worst finish this year. On the year his 3.75 Avg. Finish is tied with Austin Hill for best and his 121.48 Avg. Driver Rating is 2nd, only behind Hill. Basically Nemechek’s stats rival Hill’s in every category above except for Stage Pts where he only has 28 compared to Hill’s 54. The same cannot be said for Nemechek’s 2022/23 Superspeedway stats, then again he’s only ran 2 races. In these 2 races he’s finished 35th and 2nd with an Avg. Driver Rating of 89.2, good enough for only 10th best. Additionally Nemechek has also ran 81.16% of his laps in the Top 15 and has led 3.86% of his laps in those 2 races. In terms of Atlanta Nemechek has competed in 2 Xfinity races, neither of which have been on the new style. Nonetheless he has finished 4th and 20th in the 2 starts with a 95.4 Avg. Driver Rating. That is all there is to be said about Nemechek heading into this week so there isn’t a whole lot to go off of. I say though that Nemechek runs up front, or at least tries to, most the race and if he doesn’t get caught up in a wreck then I say he finishes Top 10.

Justin Allgaier is notable because he is 3rd in points. Last week Allgaier seemed like a shoe-in for his 9th straight Top 10 finish but a late wreck took care of that and he wound up 36th. This was Allgaier’s first finish this year outside of the Top 3 and dropped his Avg. Finish from 2.67 to 11.0. However, Allgaier still has the 3rd best Avg. Driver Rating at 110.15 and the 2nd most Stage Pts with 52. The last 7 Superspeedway races say that the Stage Pts will be prevalent again as he has gotten 5.71 Stage Pts Per Stage and 2 Stage Wins in the 7 races. His Avg. Finish in these races is only 12th best at 14.14 but he does have the 5th best Avg. Driver Rating at 98.23 and has led over 7% of the laps he’s ran. The nice thing is that while Allgaier only has 3 Top 10’s in the last 7 Superspeedway races, one of those Top 10’s came at Atlanta last Summer. In that race his number 7 car started 7th and finished 7th after getting 9 Stage Pts and running 90% of his laps in the Top 15. Chandler Smith is notable because of the impressive start he is off to in his rookie campaign. Last week Smith got his 3rd straight Top 5, longest active Xfinity Top 5 streak, after finishing 5th at Phoenix. This put Smith’s Avg. Finish at 6.0, which is 3rd best, and his Avg. Driver Rating at 103.18, which is good for 5th best. In fact he has ran 86.81% of his laps this year in the Top 15 and has finished in the Top 10 in 6 of the 8 stages. These good results may not carry into this weekend though as Smith has not faired well in the 2022/23 Superspeedway races he’s competed in. He has 2 races on this track style with a best finish of 12th and worst of 38th, this puts his Avg. Finish at 25.0 which ranks 45th out of 66 drivers. The good news is that the 12th came this year at Daytona, but also his Avg. Driver Rating of 57.9 with only 50% of his laps ran in the Top 15 aren’t very promising. While this isn’t much to go off of unfortunately it is all we have as Smith has never made a start here at Atlanta. With that said Smith has been good this year, but his 2 Superspeedway starts don’t show much promise for the weekend ahead. I think Smith will run mid-pack most the race but ends up outside the Top 15.

The good news for Truex is that the 3rd place I spoke of came here at Atlanta last Summer where he got 2 Stage Pts and ran 75% of the race in the Top 15 which lead to him getting a 109.4 Driver Rating. Overall here Truex has ran 3 races with that last race was his best finish here and his only Top 5. In the 3 starts he has a 7.67 Avg. Finish and a 95.83 Avg. Driver Rating with a worst finish of only 11th.
