Last week at Texas we saw a somewhat controversial finish as Carson Hocevar unintentionally spun Nick Sanchez, who dominated the race, to pick up his first NASCAR victory. This week it’s time to get dirty as the Trucks head to the Bristol Dirt race. I have picked 8 notable drivers to look at, 1 based on the 2023 point standings, 2 based on 2023 stats, 2 based on Dirt stats, 1 based on the last Bristol Dirt race and 2 based on their overall Bristol Dirt stats. Outlook
Ty Majeski is notable because he is the points leader thru 5 races. Last week Majeski was able to avoid the late race carnage and come home 4th. This was his 2nd straight Top 5 and his 3rd in the 5 races this year. This also improved his Avg. Finish to 5.8, the best on the year. In addition Majeski has ran 87.41% of his laps in the Top 15, ranks 3rd best, and his 104.04 Avg. Driver Rating ranks 2nd. Even his stage stats are pretty good, even without a Stage Win, as he has 8 Stage T10’s and 50 total Stage Pts, both rank 2nd best this year. Last year in the 2 Dirt Track races Majeski ran well as he ran 96% of his laps in the Top 15 and had the 8th best Avg. Driver Rating at 104.05 while getting 6.0 Stage Pts Per Stage. The finishes were a different story, however, as he finished 4th and 21st. That 21st was in the Bristol Dirt race after a late race spin, but Majeski did finish 2nd in both stages and ran 92% of his laps in the Top 15. In fact he was so good that his final Driver Rating of 105.6 was the 2nd best by a driver, in any race, that finished outside the Top 20 last year. The worst of the 2 races was at Bristol where he got 0 Stage Pts and finished 10th with only a 77.0 Driver Rating. This was also his worst race here at Bristol on the dirt as in his first race he finished 7th with a 90.8 Driver Rating. In all this has given him an 8.5 Avg. Finish and an 83.9 Avg. This was Rhodes 4th straight Top 10 after finishing 11th at Daytona and keeps his 100% of laps completed in tact. In the 5 races this year Rhodes has a 7.8 Avg. Finish with a 103.94 Avg. Driver Rating, both rank 3rd, and he’s spent 93.09% of his laps in the Top 15, best of anyone this year. Furthermore Rhodes has the most Stage T10’s with 9 and is tied for the 3rd most Stage Pts at 48. This is troubling new for the competition because Rhodes had a 5.5 Avg. Finish in the 2 Dirt Track races last year. Even better news for Rhodes is that his 119.5 Avg. Driver Rating was the best of anyone last year on Dirt Tracks and he led over 31% of his laps as well. What’s even better than that is that Bristol was the better of the two races as he won the race and led over 60% of the race in the process. Overall he has 3 Top 10’s this year with a win, 2 Top 3’s, and he has done well in stages as well. In the 10 stages Eckes has the most Stage Wins (3) and Stage Pts (53), but is just T6th in Stage T10’s (6). His stage stats are not as good when it comes to his 2022 Dirt Track stats, however, as in the 2 races on dirt last year he got 0 Stage T10’s. The good thing for Eckes is that his Avg. Finish was 8.5 with an Avg. Driver Rating of 91.75 and he ran 86.33% of his laps in the Top 15. Outlook
Carson Hocevar is notable based on the run he had at the Bristol Dirt race last year. Last week Hocevar led 1 lap, the last lap, to win his first NASCAR race.
