Outside The Track: Bristol Dirt

Outside the Track- Bristol

This is going to be short and sweet this week NASCAR fans! I’m not a fan of racing on Easter, and even less of a fan of dumping dirt on Bristol. I just want this weekend to be over already!

If you’re in town for the weekend here’s my suggestions for activities to fill your spare time and places to grab a bite.

Have a great Easter and don’t get too dirty!

ACTIVITIES

  • Birthplace of Country Music Museum Located downtown on the Virginia side, the museum is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution. It tells the story of the 1927 Bristol Sessions, what is now known as the “big bang of country music.”
  • Appalachian Caverns and Bristol Caverns If you aren’t claustrophobic and enjoy unique tours, either of these caverns are a good option. Both are within 15 minutes of the track. Bristol Caverns will take you along the Underground River, which was used by Indians as an attack and escape route during their raids. The Appalachian Cavern has a gem mine on site- a cool alternative for the kids!

RESTAURANTS

  • Blackbird Bakery With 2 locations in Bristol, you can’t go wrong stopping here to satisfy your sweet tooth. The bakery and cafĂ© serves a variety of coffees, doughnuts, pastries and cakes.
  • Janie’s Place If you are looking for southern comfort food with great prices- this is your place! I was told the open faced roast beef is delicious.

Bistro on 6th Open for lunch and dinner- was told dinner can be a bit pricey but the food is delicious. The person who suggested this restaurant said the chili Brussel sprouts with polenta cakes and the roasted beet salad are top notch.
