It’s been a couple weeks but the trucks are back! In their last race the rain and Corey Heim won at Martinsville. This week it’s onto the 3rd intermediate track of the year for the Truck Series as they head to Kansas. I have picked 8 notable drivers to look at, 1 based on the 2023 point standings, 2 based on 2023 stats, 2 based on Intermediate track stats, 1 based on the last Kansas race and 2 based on their overall Kansas stats. Here is a look at those 8 notable drivers 2023 season statistics, along with ranks among drivers in 2023 as well as ranking through 7 races since the Playoffs started in 2016. Outlook
Ty Majeski is notable because of his stats thru 7 races this year. At Martinsville Majeski was near the front all night and ended up 4th at the finish. This was Majeski’s 4th straight Top 5 finish and his 6th Top 10 on the year giving him a series leading 5.0 Avg. Finish. Also series leading are his 91.53 Laps in Top15%, 5 Top 5’s, 6 Top 10’s, 12 Stage T10’s, and 77 Stage Pts. Essentially he’s been the best driver this year, but it’s not all good as he only has 1 Top 2 and 2 Top 3’s. Neither of his Top 3’s where at an Intermediate but he has finished 4th and 5th in the 2 races at this style track in 2023. This gives him a 4.5 Avg. Finish (3rd best) and he also has a 102.7 Avg. Driver Rating (6th best). In addition to these solid stats he has ran 83% of his laps in the Top 15 and has accumulated 4.25 Stage Pts Per Stage. In the 2022 Fall Kansas race Majeski ran 95% of his laps in the Top 15, finishing 2nd in Stage 1, 6th in Stage 2, and 8th in the race. He did, however, have a 107.5 Driver Rating that day which was the 4th best of any driver in the race. This was Majeski’s 4th race here and in the 4 races he has a 12.75 Avg. Zane Smith is notable because of how good his stats are thru 7 races this year. Smith was one of the better trucks at Martinsville and ended up 3rd in the race. This improved his Avg. Finish to 8.86 which is 2nd best, as is his 85.32 Laps in Top15%, 4 Top 5’s, 11 Stage T10’s, and his 70 Stage Pts. However, Smith ranks 1st in most of the categories, which includes his, 110.41 Avg. Driver Rating, 2 Wins, 4 Top 3’s, and 11 Playoff Pts. Basically Majeski and Smith are top notch in the Trucks this year. The news gets better for Smith when you see that his Avg. Driver Rating in the 2 Intermediate races this year is 2nd best at 112.55. That said his Avg. Finish in only 8.0, but remember he was one of the 3 drivers taken out in the last lap wreck at Texas or his Avg. Finish would be better. A concerning thing for Smith is that he’s only led 2.61% of the laps in these 2 races, and in the last race at Kansas he led only 1.49% of the laps. The good news is that he ran all but 1 lap in the Top 15, finished 5th in Stage 1, 2nd in Stage 2, 4th in the race, and had the 2nd best Driver Rating at 118.5. This was Rhodes 5th Top 10 on the year and improved his Avg. Finish to 9.14, good for 3rd best this year. In addition his 84.73 Laps in Top15% ranks 3rd best and his 96.74 Avg. Driver Rating is only slightly lower at 5th best. These stats, along with his 11 Stage T10’s and 57 Stage Pts, show how good Rhodes has been despite him having just 2 Top 5’s. In the 2 Intermediate races this year Rhodes has a 6.5 Avg. Finish with a 3rd and 10th place finish. In addition he has a 111.95 Avg. Driver Rating (3rd best), 7.5 Stage Pts Per Stage, and has ran 95% of his laps in the Top 15. However, like Zane Smith above his laps led percentages are worrying as he’s only led 1% of laps in the 2 races and in the last race at Kansas Rhodes led 0 laps. Kyle Busch is notable because of how well he’s done at Kansas in his 6 starts in the Truck Series. At Martinsville Busch was beaten by his former driver, Corey Heim, and ended up finishing 2nd for his 2nd Truck race in a row. However, Busch still has a Top 2 in all 3 of his races this year, a 1.67 Avg. Finish, 136.5 Avg. Driver Rating, and has ran 96.33% of his laps in the Top 15. A surprising stat, however, is that he’s only has 1 Stage Win in the 6 stages he’s competed in. Busch has ran 1 of the 2 Intermediate races this year, Las Vegas, and in that race he got his lone win on the year. This race has his Avg. Finish at 1.0 and his Avg. Driver Rating at 148.8 on Intermediates this year, both 1st best. In addition he led 62.69% of the laps that race and ran 95% of his laps in the Top 15. Busch did not race at Kansas last year but in his 6 career starts here he has performed admirably. In those 6 starts he has a 6.33 Avg. Finish (ranks T2nd) with 3 Wins, 4 Top 2’s, and his only finish outside the Top 10 was a DNF. Furthermore he has 4 Stage Wins in the 6 stages he’s competed in here, has never finished outside the Top 10 in a stage, and has a 126.12 Avg. Driver Rating. The stats essentially say that Busch is the one to beat this weekend, and I agree. I think Busch leads most the race and ends up with the win, unless something goes wrong.

There is more good news for Hocevar in that this week is an Intermediate track, which is where both of his Top 10’s have come this year as he won at Texas and was 7th at Vegas. In addition he’s led 6.54% of his laps in the 2 races, but only run 80% of his laps in the Top 15 with just a 93.95 Avg. Driver Rating (9th best). Even better news is that Hocevar finished 2nd in the last Kansas race and led 21% of the race. However, this was only because of fuel mileage as he ran just 67.16% of his laps in the Top 15 and had just the 8th best Driver Rating at 94.0. This was by far his best race at Kansas though as his Avg. Finish is 13.33 in 3 races with last race being his only Top 10. In addition he’s only ran 60% of his laps in the Top 15 and has an 81.07 Avg. Driver Rating. Hocevar has been good on Intermediates this year though, so for that reason I see him finishing Top 10 this weekend, but no better than 8th.
