NASCAR teams and fans survived a cold, rainy weekend in Dover, Delaware. Congratulations to the Truex family for sweeping the weekend! Next, the traveling circus heads west to America’s heartland for some fun in Kansas City, Kansas.

Now, if you have never been to Kansas Speedway, it has a really cool setup. A little town has grown up around the track. There are a bunch of hotels, restaurants, and other attractions that make the experience top-notch. You could almost park your car and never drive it the rest of the weekend! If you’re looking for something to do away from the track, here are my suggestions.

ATTRACTIONS

  • Legends Outlets
Located across the street from the track, you will find a massive outlet mall with over 100 stores, restaurants, and entertainment options for the whole family.
  • Great Wolf Lodge Waterpark
Want to please the kids in your family? This is the place, and it is located right down the road from the track! If you book a room at the lodge, Waterpark access is included. However, they have half-day and full-day passes for the Waterpark that you can buy on-site.How fun would it be to party at the Waterpark all morning and then watch a fun race in the afternoon? You can thank me later.
  • GEHA FIELD AT ARROWHEAD STADIUM
Are there any football fans out there? Why not tour the home of the Kansas City Chiefs?!?! Take a 30-minute drive from the track and cross the state line into Kansas City, Missouri to find this fun attraction.Tours are given on Fridays and Saturdays. And while parking is free, tour prices start at $35 depending on which tour you take. More info can be found here.
  • Kauffman Stadium
Maybe you’re more into baseball than football? Across the road from Arrowhead Stadium is the Kansas City Royals stadium. Plus, they have home games this week against the Baltimore Orioles and the Oakland A’s this weekend!Parking for tours is free and tour tickets start at $15 depending on the tour you choose. Note: they are all in the morning due to home games. Parking and ticket prices for games vary. Info on tours can be found here.

RESTAURANTS

  • Grinders Pizza
Located 20 minutes from the track in downtown Kansas City, MO, this restaurant has been featured on Food Network! With a laid-back vibe with indoor and outdoor dining, the menu is pizza and sandwich-heavy with a large draft beer selection.
  • Mason Jar Brews & Burgers
This gem is found just 10 minutes from the track in Kansas City, KS. But don’t let the name fool you. They have more than burgers on the menu! I was told their garlic cheese fries are amazing and their salmon is spot on. Additionally, they have daily specials and serve prime rib on the weekend.
  • Cinzetti’s Italian Market
Finally, Cinzetti’s is a 25-minute drive from the track in Overland Park, KS, it features all-you-can-eat Italian! What more could you want? Sign me up!

If you happen to visit one of these attractions or restaurants, let us know! Also, if you’re a Kansas Speedway regular, let us know your favorite spots.
