IMSA Returns to the Famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway
This upcoming weekend, September 15-17, IMSA will make its return to the bricks of Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks.
The Last Time IMSA Visited the Yard of Bricks
When IMSA made its last stop at IMS in 2014, Joao Barbosa (a driver slated to return in IMSA’s comeback to Indy) and Christian Fittipaldi drove the Action Express Racing Corvette DP to victory. This was the first season of what is now the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Additionally, Sebastian Bourdais, former Indycar driver for A.J Foyt Racing, will be making his return to the bricks of Indy in the No. 01 Cadillac GTP fielded by Chip Ganassi Racing.
Weekend ScheduleÂ
The weekend lineup is fully stacked for The TireRacks.com Battle On The Bricks. The racing will consist of the Porsche Carrera Cup making its third trip to the Racing Capital of the World, along with the Michelin Pilot Challenge and Weathertech Sportscar Championship including the Lamborghini Trofeo Series.
Starting things off for the Brickyard weekend will be practice for the Porsche Carrera Cup, Lamborgini Trofeo, and Michelin Pilot Challenge in the morning. Then, in the afternoon, practice for the Weathertech Sportscar Championship and qualifying for the Porsche Carrera Cup will finish up Friday’s track activities.
Saturday will lead into qualifying for all other classes, including two races for the Lamborghini Torfeo (Race 1) and the Porsche Carrera Cup (Race 1).
Last but not least, the Michelin Pilot Challenge will wrap up Saturday’s events.
Finally, Sunday will lead the way for Race 2 for both Lamborghini Trofeo and Porsche Carrera Cup Weathertech Sportscar Championship with the TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks.
Track Facts and InformationÂ
This weekend’s endurance race for IMSA will be held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the famed 2.5-mile track which holds many events such as the Indy 500 and Brickyard 400.
However, they will be racing on the Road Course layout for this weekend’s track activities. The road course itself is a 14 turn 2.439-mile track that consists of many fast sections, including Turns 11 and 12 that combine speedway Turns 1 and 2.
