Texas Motor Speedway
We go from the short track in the hills of Tennessee to the large and fast Speedway in the state of Texas where everything is bigger!
I have not personally been to Texas Motor Speedway, however, I was told that the setup and variety of activities on the property is so nice that if you camp you don’t ever have to leave the track until you head home. On the off chance you do want to get away from the crowds and enjoy some of what Texas has to offer in the area, here are my suggestions for you.
Attractions
- If you know me, then you know I am a shopper. I’m always on the hunt for a deal and outlets are my jam! Right down the road from the track are the Tanger Outlets Fort Worth. Pick up some things to take home for yourself or, *hint hint*, Christmas is coming! Get a jump on all those presents!
- If shopping isn’t your thing but you don’t want to venture far for an activity, right beside the racetrack is Lone Star Kartpark. This 0.6-mile kart track has 16 turns of fun! Grab your buddies and have a race of your own.
- Want to wear the kids out so they sleep all night? Head 20 minutes from the track to Ninja Kids Trampoline Park in Richland Hills, TX. This indoor park has over 20 attractions built into it. The kids can try things like a trampoline arena, dodgeball, ninja course, zip lines, and much more!
- If you want a true taste of Texas, drive 30 minutes south to the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District. Their site reads: “From the original brick walkways to the wooden corrals, every inch of the Stockyards tells the true history of Texas’s famous livestock industry.” Additionally, they have cattle drives down the street at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. every day, weather permitting. How neat! Rodeos are on Friday and Saturday nights. Find out more info about all the area offers here.
Restaurants
- If you go visit the Fort Worth Stockyards, right in the middle of everything is Cattlemen’s Steak House. Known as Fort Worth’s finest steakhouse since 1947, I was told the food is delicious but pricey. I suggest you go for lunch which has more reasonable prices and your best bet is to make reservations ahead of time to guarantee a table.
- Burgers & Curries is a modern Indian restaurant just minutes from the racetrack. You can have burgers with an Indian twist or go straight-up Indian and try Naan bread, tikka Masala, or tandoori chicken. Who would have thought you could go to Texas and have goat curry for lunch or dinner?
- Finally, Hard Eight BBQ is also close by the track in Roanoke, TX, and was a place many people told me about. You order meats by pound and the sides are a la carte. Make sure to ask what the special of the day is before ordering. They offer multiple desserts but I was told you better make sure you try the whiskey buttermilk pie!
