Welcome, in this article series we will be reviewing and rating how each driver in the NASCAR Xfinity series has done in the 2023 season (min. 15 races started). Each part will contain 3-4 drivers and have them grouped by organization/satellite team or car manufacturer/future manufacturer teammate as best as possible. The review will include the drivers 2023 season statistics, along with ranks among drivers in 2023 with season ranking since the Playoffs started in 2016. We will also highlight playoff stats, notable streaks accomplished through the year, 2023 Short track (under 1 mile), Small track (1-1.3 mile), intermediate (1.3-1.5 mile), Big track (2-2.5 mile), Road Course, and Superspeedway (drafting tracks) statistics. I will grade each section and give a brief reason why, then give a short overview ending with an overall grade A+ thru F- based on a weighted formula from the grades above. To sum up each team, at the end of their last driver I will give an overall team grade based on the grades for each driver. All grades may take into account underfunded/well-funded cars and experience.

All of his 2023 Ranks are 6th or better, but only 3 are T2nd or better. So when looking at this plus how good his stats are I give him an A, but just shy of an A+.

I feel a D+ is a good grade considering he had a best finish of 16th and only ran 68% of his laps in the Top 15, but had good stages and a decent Avg. Driver Rating.

I almost gave him an A- since his Avg. Driver Rating, Avg. Finish, and Laps in Top 15% were pretty good. However, his 3 Stage Wins, 2 race wins, and 6 Top 10’s are what got him an A.

He was the only driver to finish all 5 races in the Top 15, but he had just 1 Top 3, 2.1 Stage Pts Per Stage, and just the 9th best Avg. Driver Rating so I gave him an A-.
Overview
– Custer was one of the best all year and got it done when it counted for his 1st NASCAR championship
– Custer’s worst 2023 Rank above was 6th and he got 21 Top 10’s with 6 Poles this year
– He ran great in the playoffs and finished very good as well, except in a few races
– His 11 race Top 10 streak this year was 4 races longer than anyone else
– He ran well at Short tracks this year and had all Top 5 finishes, except one
– Small tracks weren’t as good for him, but he still ran and finished decent in the 4 races
– Custer performed very well at Intermediates, but he didn’t win any races and had a best finish of 3rd
– The one style of track that he did not do well at was Big tracks
– He ran decent on Road Courses with most of his finishes being Top 10’s
– He was the only driver to finish in the Top 15 on all Superspeedway races, and he ran decently well too

This was close between B and B- but I went with B- because of his 7 DNF’s. This was about his only bad stat though as he did win and have decent in-race stats so he gets the B-.

It was a toss up between C and C- but I went with C- because having 3 Top 10’s, 1.63 Stage Pts Per Stage, and a 17.13 Avg. Finish aren’t that good, especially when you see what his teammate did above.

He only had 2 Top 15’s with 3 finishes out of the Top 20, but also an 80.86 Avg. Driver Rating. He also got 3 Stage Pts Per Stage and led 2% of his laps so I went with a C-.

I consider this a tier 2 car (out of 3 tiers), and while having 9 Top 10’s is pretty good. Just 1 Top 5 and running less than half the laps in the Top 15 isn’t too good. So, overall he was a bit above average, hence C+.

In this caliber of car I’d expect a few more Top 15 finishes and better stages which is why I gave him a C-, because he wasn’t terrible but could have done better.

I probably would have given him a B+ if he had done better in stages. However, his 2 Top 10’s and 70% laps run in Top 15 are really good so he gets a B.

His Avg. Driver Rating isn’t bad and he ran over half his laps in the Top 15, but he only had 2 Top 10’s and 4 Top 15’s with 0.75 Stage Pts Per Stage so C- is fitting.

2023 Superspeedway Grade: B-
He only managed 1 Top 10, but he ran a good chunk of his laps in the Top 15, had a superb Avg. Driver Rating, and did well in stages. So, this to me gives him a B-.
Overview
– Moffitt wound up in a pretty good points spot for the car he’s in, finishing 15th
– Moffitt didn’t run terrible or great this year, and his finishes were decently well for this team
– The 2023 season as a whole was quite a bit better than his playoffs, where he struggled
– He had a 2 race Top 10 streak this year, but that was his best
– At Short tracks he ran rather poor, but he found a way to get 1 Top 10 in the 4 races
– His runs at Small tracks weren’t the best, but he finished every race in the Top 15
– Moffitt’s runs and finishes weren’t typically that great an Intermediates
– Big tracks were his best tracks as he both ran and finished well on them
– Road Courses weren’t his best runs, but he did finish half the races in the Top 15
– He ran and finished decent on Superspeedway’s this year
