Foundation Friday seeks to spotlight how NASCAR drivers are giving back through their personal foundations. Each week, a different driver and their foundation will be highlighted including who they are helping, notable accomplishments, and how you can get involved in their efforts.
Joey Logano Foundation
The overarching mission of the Joey Logano Foundation is to “invest in organizations offering second chances to children and young adults during times of crisis.” Additionally, it works “to inspire others to live a life of generosity.”
Since 2013, over five million dollars have been invested in various organizations and initiatives. Additionally, there has been a focus on the foster care system.
The Beginnings
After the devastating tornado outbreak in Joplin, Missouri in 2011, Joey Logano lent a hand in re-building a family’s home. He saw how much this meant to the family and set out to provide second chances to others in need. This came on the heels of his own second chance after signing with Team Penske to further his career.Â
Since then, over 250,000 children have benefited from his generosity.Â
With a vision and mission in place, Logano set forth to use “the public platform of motorsports to raise awareness for children and young adults in crisis. To do the due diligence of our chosen charities, so you can be assured your donation goes to the cause.”Â
Programs
There are three facets to the JLF where donations are directed.Â
The first is C.A.R.E. which stands for Critical Assistance Relief Effort. This started as backpacks filled with necessary supplies for children in vulnerable areas. However, it has grown to reach hundreds of thousands of people through Habitat for Humanity, convoys of food and supplies, as well as COVID-19 Response & Recovery Fund.
After personally working with HairClub, Logano was thrilled to discover their “for Kids” program. Through this initiative, children who suffer from hair loss due to a medical condition may be eligible for a free membership to HairClub for Kids.
Through this program, children receive “state of the art hair loss solution” as well as hair cuts and stylings.
The JL Kids Crew is likely the most well-known of the JLF programs. Each year, a few children are selected to have a special one-on-one day at a NASCAR Cup Series race with Logano and the No. 22 Team Penske team.
The recipient receives a custom fire suit and the chance to escort Logano through driver introductions. They even have the opportunity to stand with the team during pre-race ceremonies.
