Freedom Racing Enterprises
After logging seven years in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, Spencer Boyd feels 2024 is the time to take on a new endeavor.
Boyd shared with media members on Monday morning that he is stepping into a dual role of driver and co-ownership. He will pilot the No. 76 Chevrolet Silverado for his newly named team, Freedom Racing Enterprises.
FRE is a venture co-founded by Boyd and long-time business partner Chris Miller. Miller owns Freedom Warranty, a primary partner of Boyd’s for numerous seasons in the Truck Series.
A press release stated, “FRE is named for Spencer’s love of his country in combination with Miller’s company and Boyd sponsor, Freedom Warranty, which provides extended warranties for vehicles of all types.”
Miller went on to say, “This is an invigorating endeavor with some very competent people. Business success is about surrounding yourself with good people all pulling the rope in the same direction and that is what we have here. I look forward to being part of the journey.”
Heavy Hitters
Boyd and Miller are not alone in this journey. Storied NASCAR crew chief and Fox Sports Analyst, Jeff Hammond, is on board as General Manager for FRE.
Hammond was quoted, “I’m motivated by the optimism and professionalism in the group of people that Spencer has assembled. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is undergoing many changes this offseason so it is an ideal time to form a new team. We know the Trucks produce some of the greatest racing in the world, so I’m delighted to be energized by Spencer Boyd and Freedom Racing Enterprises!”
Greg Ely and Rick Bourgeois will serve as Boyd’s crew chief and car chief respectively. The two have a long history of working together, as well as with Boyd, in various capacities. The team feels that they “coupled with the equipment in the newly formed stables will anchor Boyd’s on-track performance.”
Speaking of equipment, FRE acquired equipment throughout the 2023 season in anticipation of the inaugural run. Many of their assets were purchased from GMS Racing once the team announced the closure of their racing operations.
When asked about his number, Boyd shared that it was indeed in honor of 1776, the year of our nation’s independence. When he was racing with Bobby Dotter, he was able to choose his number. After that, he knew if the ownership opportunity ever arose, he wanted the No. 76 adorning his truck.
Looking Ahead
FRE aims to run a full season in the Truck Series beginning with Daytona International Speedway on February 16, 2024.
Boyd shared the goal of running in the top 15. However, he noted, “The real goal is to get points and put FRE on the map.” He continued by saying, “This is a big undertaking, but we will adjust throughout the year.”
Finally, more partnership announcements will come as the start of the 2024 season draws closer. Fans desiring to stay up-to-date on all FRE announcements can do so via their socials (Facebook, Instagram, X) as well as the FRE website.
Very proud to be part of this exciting time!
It is very exciting! I’m ready to see the truck on track and get the season rolling! Best of luck to everyone involved!
