Craftsman Truck Series Notable Drivers Statistics & Outlook: Bristol

Last time the trucks hit the track we saw a shocking upset as Kyle Busch didn’t win, or finish in the Top 10. Instead his teammate, Rajah Caruth, picked up his first Truck win. This week we head to another track Kyle Busch will be in and has had tons of success at, Bristol. I have picked 5 notable drivers to look at, 1 based on 2024 season stats, 1 based on Short track stats, 1 based on the last Bristol race, 1 based on their Bristol stats over the last 5 Truck seasons, and 1 based on the highest in points that wasn’t already picked. Here is a look at those 5 notable drivers 2024 season statistics, along with ranks among drivers in 2024 as well as ranking through 3 races since the Playoffs started in 2016. We will also highlight notable streaks accomplished through the year and at Bristol, 2023 Short track (under 1 mile) statistics and Bristol statistics from the past 5 Truck seasons.

1st in Points – Tyler Ankrum

Tyler Ankrum reversed his Las Vegas luck with a 2nd place finish last time out. This week he hopes to reverse his Short track luck from last year with a good run at Bristol. Photo credit: @BMR_NASCAR Twitter/X Page

Main Points & Outlook
Tyler Ankrum is notable because of his 2024 stats
Two weeks ago in Las Vegas Ankrum ran the most laps of any driver in the Top 15 (133 of 134) and finished 2nd, but also led 0 laps
Through 3 races this year his worst 2024 Rank above is just T5th (1 Top 5), and he has the best Avg. Driver Rating with the 2nd best Avg. Stage Finish
He is on a 2 race Top 10 streak and before the last stage at Las Vegas was on a 5 straight Stage T10 streak
The only streak he has at Bristol is 6 straight Stage T10’s from 2019 to 2021
He struggled on Short tracks last year getting the 40th best Avg. Finish (24.6) and 33rd best Avg. Driver Rating (55.56) with 1 Top 15 and 4 finishes out of the Top 20 in 5 races
At Bristol last year Ankrum ran just 20% of his laps in the Top 15 and ended up 23rd at the finish
Over the last 5 years he’s ran 5 races at Bristol with a best finish of 7th, an Avg. Finish of 18.6, and an 88.06 Avg. Driver Rating
Outlook for this weekend
Tyler Ankrum reversed his bad mojo at Las Vegas in the last Truck race and finished 2nd, giving him some of the best stats in the Truck Series this year. The unfortunate thing is that this week is a Short track where he just struggled last year, neither running or finishing good. Even worse is that this week is Bristol where he has just 2 Top 15’s in the last 5 races, but has ran decent at least. Based on these stats Ankrum will struggle this weekend, but with the way he’s been this year I wouldn’t count out a Top 10 for him.

2nd in Points – Ty Majeski

Main Points & Outlook
Ty Majeski is notable because he is 2nd in points thru 3 races
At Las Vegas Majeski led the most laps, ran 91% of his laps in the Top 15, and won both stages; but a speeding penalty in Stage 3 relegated him to a 10th place finish
This year he’s been great in stages as all of his stage stats rank 1st in the 2024 Ranks above, but his 9.33 Avg. Finish is only 9th best
He is currently on a 2 race Top 10 streak, 2 straight Stage Win streak, and an impressive 12 straight Stage T10 streak
In terms of Bristol he has no streaks over 1 in a row
He was great at Short tracks last year getting 1 Win, 3 Top 3’s, 4 Stage Wins, and a 115.46 Avg. Driver Rating in the 5 races
Last years Fall Bristol race wasn’t good for Majeski as he barely ran half the laps in the Top 15 and wound up 19th at the finish of the race
In the last 5 years he’s run 2 races at Bristol where he’s finished 1st and 19th  while getting the best Avg. Driver Rating over this span and the 2nd best Laps Led%
Outlook for this weekend
Ty Majeski was looking good to win at Las Vegas, but speeding on pit road took care of that. However, despite not finishing well he’s been great in stages this year. Heading to a Short track is even better news as he ran and finished very well on them, but the one Short track race he struggled at was Bristol. This was only his 2nd race at Bristol and his first was really good, so he’s been a mixed bag here. Overall this weekend the stats say look out for Majeski to be really good and compete for the win most likely.

3rd in Points – Corey Heim

Main Points & Outlook
Corey Heim is notable because of how well he’s done at Bristol over the last 5 years
At Las Vegas Heim got 15 Stage Pts and ran all but 2 laps in the Top 15 before winding up 3rd in the race
Thru 3 races this year he has a worst 2024 Rank above of T6th (0 Stage Wins), a 2.67 Avg. Finish, a 103.23 Avg. Driver Rating, and a 7.5 Avg. Stage Finish
He is on a 3 race Top 3 finish streak and a 3 straight Stage T10 streak
At Bristol he is on a 1 race Win “streak” and a 2 race Top 10 streak as well (his only 2 races at Bristol)
In 5 Short track races last year he had the 4th best Avg. Finish, 4th best Laps in Top 15%, 3rd best Avg. Driver Rating, a worst finish of 8th, and an astounding 8.1 Stage Per Stage
Heim ran all 200 laps at Bristol last year in the Top 15, but only led 6 laps, however he led the most important one as he won the race
In the last 5 years he has ran 2 Truck races here with both ending up in Top 10’s, and he’s got a 108.8 Avg. Driver Rating
Outlook for this weekend
Corey Heim’s start to the 2024 season is picking up where he was last year, really good. He’s yet to finish out of the Top 3 this year, but he hasn’t won a race or stage yet. The news gets worse for the competition as he was pretty excellent in the 5 Short track races last year, including a win at Bristol last Fall. This was his 2nd race here and both have ended up in the Top 10, so needless to say he’s been good here. Looking at all of this it’s impossible to think Heim will finish out of the Top 10 this weekend, and he probably add to his 3 race Top 3 streak.

5th in Owner Points – Kyle Busch

Kyle Busch had a pit road penalty undo any chance he had of winning in Las Vegas. However, this week we head to another great track for him where he looks to get back to winning ways. Photo by Meg Oliphant — Getty Images

Main Points & Outlook
Kyle Busch is notable because of how he performed on Short tracks last year
At Las Vegas two weeks ago Busch did anything but dominate as he led just 13 laps, ran only 90% of his laps in the Top 15, and ended up 15th at the finish
He’s ran only 2 of the 3 Truck races this year, but he has a Win and the 3rd best Avg. Stage Finish with the 5th best Avg. Finish
With his finish out of the Top 10 last week the only streaks he has this year are his 4 straight Stage T10’s he is currently on
In the late 2000’s at Bristol he had a 3 race Win streak in the Truck Series
Last year he ran just 1 Short track Truck race, but in the race he had a 130.1 Avg. Driver Rating and finished 2nd
Busch did not race at Bristol in the Trucks last year, in fact the last time he did was in 2017
He hasn’t ran any Bristol Truck races in the last 5 years, but in his career here he has 5 Truck wins in 9 starts with a 122.48 Avg. Driver Rating
Outlook for this weekend
Kyle Busch not winning at Atlanta was shocking, the fact he finished 15th is just crazy. With this his 2024 stats are a little disappointing, but that can change this weekend as we head to a Short track where in his 1 race last year he was really good. However, he didn’t win that race and he hasn’t raced at Bristol in a truck since 2017, but when he has ran here he’s been great. So, with all that said look out for Busch to be yet again the favorite in the Trucks this weekend, with anything less than a Win being a disappointment.

Main Points & Outlook
Christian Eckes is notable because of how he performed in the Bristol Truck race last year
At Las Vegas Eckes ran 86% of his laps in the Top 15 and even led 7 laps, but he got 0 Stage Pts en route to a 6th place finish
On the year he has 2 Top 10’s and 1 DNF in the 3 races with the 10th best Avg. Finish, but he has a 16.0 Avg. Finish and only an 11.83 Avg. Stage Finish
The only streak he has this year is his 3 straight Stage T10’s to start the year
He has many active streaks at Bristol including his 2 straight Top 10’s and 2 straight Stage Wins
On Short tracks last year he was decent as he had an 11.0 Avg. Finish with 2 Top 3’s and 6.2 Stage Pts Per Stage, but 0 Wins and only 2 Top 10’s in 5 races
Eckes did almost everything right at Bristol last year as he won the Pole, Stage 1, Stage 2, and had the best Driver Rating; but he ended up 2nd in the race
In the last 5 years at Bristol he has ran 3 Truck races and almost every Bristol rank above is 1st, including all of his stage stats
Outlook for this weekend
Christian Eckes wasn’t too much of a factor at Las Vegas, but apart from his DNF at Atlanta he’s ran very well this year as his 2024 stats tell. Some decent news is that this week is a Short track where he ran pretty well last year and had some great finishes, but the rest were mediocre at best. However, this is Bristol where he dominated last year for the most part, and where he’s been the best driver over the last 5 years. In all look for Eckes to run better this weekend than he did at Las Vegas and probably finish better too.
