This week NASCAR drivers are headed to the first of back-to-back short tracks, and one of my favorite racetracks, Richmond Raceway. We can only hope this weeked has action like Bristol instead of the snoozefest that was COTA. Can we all agree how unbearable that was?
If you are going to the races this weekend, have a fantastic time and make sure to attend the Easter service outside the track before the race Sunday night!
ATTRACTIONS
- Explore over 50 acres of gardens, shopping and dining at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. There are a dozen themed gardens as well as a one of it’s kind domed Conservatory.
Right now the Cherry Tree Walk is fully bloomed and gorgeous! All ages will enjoy visiting one of Richmond’s most visited attractions.
- Next, The White House of the Confederacy is a neat option for history lovers. Located downtown and just minutes from the racetrack, you can book an hour tour with a guide from the American Civil War Museum to walk through two floors of the house.
The historic mansion was built in 1818 and served as the executive residence of Jefferson Davis and his family during the Civil War.
- If you looking to get some aggression out, what could be better than axe and knife throwing at Shield N Sheath Hatchet House?!
This is a fun activity for teens and adults. Just make sure to wear closed toed shoes! You can also order drinks, appetizers and pizza from a limited menu. (Note: Minimum age is 12 to throw.)
RESTAURANTS
- ZZQ Texas Craft Barbeque is located minutes from the racetrack and was just voted #3 best BBQ joint in Virginia by Southern Living Magazine readers. They are open Wednesday- Sunday from11-6 (unless they sell out early). Everyone recommends the brisket, collard greens and beet salad (if that’s your thing. I personally can’t stand beets). But, be sure to pick up a whoopie pie for dessert.
- Take I-95 north to Ashland to have a delicious meal at Kreggers Tap and Table.
I was told the whole menu is good, but the crawfish tacos, jerk chicken and Po’Boys are the real standouts.
- Finally, located near the Richmond airport, if you are craving pasta hit up Carini Italian Restaurant. I was told that all their soups are good, however their Italian sampler was highly recommended along with their tortellini.
