All-Time Cup Track Stats: Texas

Last week we saw Hendrick Motorsports get a historic 1-2-3 finish at Martinsville, which helped overshadow an otherwise pretty boring race. This week we head to a track that’s also been known for being boring and has been good for Hendrick as they have won 2 of the last 3 races here, Texas. Down below you will find different statistics from all of the NASCAR Cup races here at Texas Motor Speedway ranging from Most Wins to Best Average Finishes by starting position. So read and enjoy these fun fact track stats!
In this post you will only find all-time stats, if you are looking for only active drivers stats or Next Gen stats check out my next article Active/Next Gen Cup Track Stats: Texas.
Active Drivers will be highlighted like so
Active means any driver who started a race in the 2024 Cup Series season.

First Winner:
Jeff Burton 04/06/1997
Most Recent Winner: William Byron 09/24/2023
Worst Starting Positions by Winner
Rank Race Start Pos. Driver Rank Race Start Pos. Driver
1 2002-07 31 Matt Kenseth 6 2020-18 21 Austin Dillon

T2 2010-34 30 Denny Hamlin 8 2023-30 18 William Byron
4 2010-08 29 Denny Hamlin 9 2008-34 16 Carl Edwards
5 2017-07 24 Jimmie Johnson 10 2016-07 15 Kyle Busch

The table above shows the only times, in 43 races, that a driver started out of the Top 10 in a Cup race at Texas and won the race. However, one time was the last race here.

5 2006-34 27 Brian Vickers T8 2010-34 23 Elliott Sadler

Bobby Labonte was really good in qualifying here at Texas winning 2 Poles, but unfortunately those didn’t help in the race as both of those Poles are on the worst finish list above.

Winning the Pole is not usually good at Texas if you want to win the race as in the 38 times Pole qualifying has been held, only 4 times has the Pole winner won the race.

Normally leading a lot of laps equals a win, but not here as only 4 of the 10 drivers with the best Laps Led% in a race here at Texas have actually won the race.

In the last 10 races at Texas only 6 races have seen a driver run every lap in the Top 15, so don’t expect someone to do it this weekend. However, if someone does it’ll probably be Ryan Blaney as he’s the only one in the table above 3+ times.
