Outside the Track: Darlington

Are you headed to Darlington this weekend? Here are some sights Outside the Track! (Photo Credit: Darlington Raceway | Facebook)

We are headed to South Carolina for throwback weekend at Darlington Raceway so pull out your old race gear and dust off your old racing memorabilia to get into the spirit at home or at the racetrack! Throwback weekend is always fun because drivers, teams, TV, and fans all get into the spirit and show off.

If you haven’t seen all the throwback schemes for this weekend’s races, make sure to look online ahead of time. There are some really great looking trucks and cars hitting the track this weekend. Of what I have seen, I would say the NASCAR Xfinity Series has the best throwbacks this year.

If you are going to Darlington for the races, have a great time. Make sure to take some photos in black and white or the “old timey” filters on your phones to really lean into the feel of the weekend. Hopefully the racing will be just as good as the throwbacks!

Attractions

  • The racetrack is less than two hours from Myrtle Beach so if you have the time, head for some sun and sand! Any age will have something to enjoy in the Myrtle Beach area and there are hundreds of food options! I always suggest people stay in the Myrtle Beach area and drive to the track for a race or two to make the most out of their weekend.
  • If you don’t want to venture that far for some relaxation and family fun, check out Lawton Park in Hartsville. Located 20 minutes from the racetrack on Prestwood Lake, Lawton Park provides a large playground for kids, walking trail, fishing pier and covered picnic areas.
  • If you really want to have some fun and wear the kids out, check out DEFY in Florence.

You can partake in challenging your limits in activities such as extreme dodgeball, a ninja course, zip lines or even try your hand at trapeze! Any age will enjoy this over the top indoor extreme park.

  • If you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t experienced Buc-ee’s yet, good news – there is one just a few minutes from the racetrack. Walk around the massive convenience store, pick up some snacks for the weekend and get your photo with Buc-ee!

Restaurants

  • Southern Charm Restaurant is a great place to grab breakfast or lunch if you want down home southern cooking. You can’t beat the location, just right down the road from the track!
  • Finally, D’z BBQ in Florence is the place to grab some smoked meat for dinner. Blink and you might miss this place. Just follow the smell to the food truck to place your order.

I was told the pulled pork is delicious but the real star is the smoked chicken!

Let us know your favorite places when in Darlington for the races!
