Cup Series Notable Drivers Statistics & Outlook: Nashville

In New Hampshire last week we got another surprisingly good race as the last 80+ laps of the race where run in damp racing conditions. However, the winner was not a surprise as the king of New Hampshire, Christopher Bell, took home the victory and swept the weekend. Up next we head to an Intermediate track in Nashville where the likelihood of another good race is high, it’s very high. I have picked 5 notable drivers to look at, 1 based on 2024 season stats, 1 based on Intermediate stats, 1 based on the last Nashville race, 1 based on their Next Gen Nashville stats, and 1 based on the highest in points that wasn’t already picked. Here is a look at those 5 notable drivers 2024 season statistics, along with ranks among drivers in 2024 as well as ranking through 18 races since the Playoffs started in 2004. We will also highlight notable streaks accomplished through the year and at Nashville, 2024 Intermediate (1.3-1.5 miles) statistics and Nashville statistics in the Next Gen car.
Note: any driver in 4 straight Cup outlook articles is not in consideration for the next two, or any driver in 4 of 5 Cup outlook articles is not in consideration for the next one. This resets after they are put back into consideration.
This week not in consideration: Kyle Larson (4 in a row, 2nd week) & William Byron (4 of 5)

2nd in Points – Chase Elliott

Chase Elliott became the first Cup driver in the playoff era to finish the first 18 races of a season in the Top 20 last week at New Hampshire. He hopes to keep this streak alive this weekend, and looks become the first driver to win two Nashville Cup races, too. Photo by Fred Kfoury III — Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

Main Points & Outlook
Chase Elliott is notable because of his 2024 stats thru 18 races
Elliott got 8 Stage Pts at New Hampshire last week, led 13% of the race, and ran 88% of his laps in the Top 15; but the overtime restart didn’t go his way and he finished 18th
He is the only driver to not finish out of the Top 20 thru 18 races since 2004, and he has the most Stage T10’s (24) this year with the best Avg. Race Finish (9.61) as well
He is currently on a 4 straight Stage T10 streak and earlier this year he had a 2024 series high 9 straight Stage T10’s
At Nashville he is on a 2 race Top 5 finish streak and a 4 straight Stage T10 streak
In 5 Intermediate races this year he has 1 win and 3 Top 10’s with a worse finish of 12th, but he’s only ran 73% of his laps in the Top 15 and has just 1.73 Stage Pts Per Stage
In the 2023 Nashville race Elliott led just 1 lap, but he did get 9 Stage Pts and ran all but 4 laps in the Top 15, finishing 4th in the race
At Nashville he has a Win and a 4th in the 2 Next Gen races while running 94% of his laps in the Top 15 and picking up 4.75 Stage Pts Per Stage
Outlook for this weekend
Chase Elliott nearly lost his historic Top 20 finish streak to start a season as he finished 18th last week, but even with this he still has some of the best stats in the Cup Series this year. Even better is that this week is an Intermediate track where he’s finished well overall, but he hasn’t exactly ran well in the 5 races. However, this is Nashville where Elliott has ran very well in the Next Gen car, and better yet he’s finished great in the 2 Next Gen races here. Overall, watch out for Elliott this weekend to not only run good, but finish good too and keep that Top 20 streak alive.

3rd in Points – Denny Hamlin

Main Points & Outlook
Denny Hamlin is notable because of his stats on Intermediate tracks this year
Hamlin got 14 Stage Pts at New Hampshire, including a Stage 2 Win, and he ran 88% of his laps in the Top 15, but when the rains came he went back and ended up finishing 24th
He has just the 11th best Avg. Finish this year with 6 finishes out of the Top 20 to 8 Top 10’s, but he has 3 Wins and the best Laps in Top 15% in the 2024 Ranks above
He has the longest Top 5 streak this year at 5 straight races, but his longest Stage T10 streak is only 4 straight stages
At Nashville he is on a 2 race Top 10 streak and a 6 straight Stage T10 streak, the only driver to finish all 6 Cup stages at Nashville in the Top 10
In the 5 Intermediate races this year he has the best Laps in Top 15%, 2nd best Avg. Driver Rating, 3 Top 5’s, and 5.09 Stage Pts Per Stage
Last year at Nashville Hamlin ran all but 2 laps in the Top 15 and led 27% of the race, but despite winning Stage 2 he only mustered up a 3rd place finish
He’s finished 3rd and 6th in the 2 Next Gen races at Nashville while running 99% of his laps in the Top 15 and leading 33% of his laps, not to mention he ranks 1st in most Nashville stats above
Outlook for this weekend
Denny Hamlin had a rough finish to the race at New Hampshire last week leading to another finish out of the Top 20, but despite his bad finishes he’s done really good in stages this year. However, this is different at Intermediates this year as he’s ran great and finished great more often than not, but he’s still looking for a win. What’s more is that he’s been great in the Next Gen car at Nashville, arguably the best driver in terms of running and finishing. All in all, watch out for Hamlin this weekend, it could be the weekend he picks up his 1st Intermediate win of the year.

4th in Points – Martin Truex Jr.

Main Points & Outlook
Martin Truex Jr. is notable because of his race last year at Nashville
Truex had an up and down day at New Hampshire last week as he got 14 Stage Pts, but he ran just 78% of his laps in the Top 15 and finished 9th
Outside of his Wins thru Top 10’s and Playoff Pts categories his worst 2024 Rank above is only T5th, including him having the 2nd best Avg. Driver Rating (96.29)
He is on an active 2 straight Stage T10 streak, and earlier this year had a 5 race Top 10 streak and an 8 straight Stage T10 streak
At Nashville he is on a 1 race Top 2 “streak” and a 4 straight Stage T10 streak, and he is the only driver to win back-to-back stages here as well
He only has 2 Top 10’s in the 5 Intermediate races this year while running just 79% of his laps in the Top 15, but he does have a decent 9.91 Avg. Stage Finish
Last year at Nashville Truex ran just 3 laps out of the Top 15 and led 17% of the race before finishing the race in 2nd place with the 2nd best Driver Rating
He’s ran 97% of his laps in the Top 15 at Nashville in the Next Gen car while leading 22% of his laps and getting 2 Stage Wins, but he has a 12.0 Avg. Finish
Outlook for this weekend
Martin Truex Jr. couldn’t find the magic at the Magic Mile last week, but he was still able to break out of the slump he was in to finally get another Top 10. Despite his slump he’s still got some good 2024 stats, but heading to an Intermediate track may not be the best news as he’s ran decent but hasn’t finished well this year. The same can sort of be said with this being Nashville as Truex has ran great in the Next Gen car here, but he has one good and one bad finish. Looking at the stats it’s almost clear Truex will run well this weekend, but a good finish is about as clear as mud.

5th in Points – Tyler Reddick

This had to be Tyler Reddick’s reaction when he was told we were going back racing instead of he’s the winner at New Hampshire last week. Instead he will have to look at getting his 2nd win of the year this weekend at Nashville. Photo by Jonathan Bachman — Getty Images

Main Points & Outlook
Tyler Reddick is notable because he’s 5th in points heading to Nashville
At New Hampshire Reddick got just 2 Stage Pts but he ran 89% of his laps and would have won the race if it weren’t for rain tires, but alas he finished 6th
He is tied for the most Top 10 finishes this year (11) and his worst 2024 Rank above is only T10th (2 Top 3’s)
His streaks this year aren’t too impressive as he has just a best Stage T10 streak of 4 stages, but he did have a 5 race Top 10 finish streak earlier this year
He has no notable streaks here at Nashville
In the 5 Intermediate races this year he has 3 Top 5 finishes, but he also has 3 Top 15’s. However, he’s led 16% of his laps and has the 3rd best Avg. Driver Rating (105.62)
Last year at Nashville Reddick led 33 laps and won Stage 1, but a tire issue in Stage 2 derailed his race as he ran just 46% of his laps in the Top 15 and finished 30th in the race
In the 2 Next Gen races at Nashville he’s led 5.52% of his laps and has 1 Stage Win, unfortunately that is his only Stage T10 and his best race finish is only 18th
Outlook for this weekend
If not for rain tires we are talking about Tyler Reddick getting his 2nd win of 2024 last week, but even without this his stats this year are pretty solid. This continues when you look at his Intermediate stats this year as he’s ran very well and finished good in most races. However, this is Nashville and he’s ran poor and finished even worse in the Next Gen races here. In all, expect Reddick to be fast this weekend, but it’d be foolish to put money on him for a good finish at Nashville.

9th in Points – Ross Chastain

Despite a rain spin early in the wet tire run to the finish, Ross Chastain was able to battle back for a Top 10. He hopes to avoids spins this week and just have a solid race. Photo by Jonathan Bachman — Getty Images

Main Points & Outlook
Ross Chastain is notable because of his Next Gen Nashville stats
At New Hampshire Chastain ran 75% of his laps in the Top 15 and got 4 Stage Pts en route to a 10th place finish
In 2024 he has just 2 Top 5’s and 7 Top 10’s, but he also has just 2 finishes out of the Top 20 which leads to him having the 2nd best Avg. Finish (12.33)
He is on a 2 straight Stage T10 streak, which is his longest this year, and his longest Top 10 finish streak this year is just 3 races
At Nashville he is on a 3 race Top 5 finish streak and a 3 straight Stage T10 streak
In the 5 Intermediate races this year he’s ran only 75% of his laps in the Top 15 with just 2 Top 10 finishes, but he does have 1 Stage Win and 2.73 Stage Pts Per Stage
Last year Chastain was incredible at Nashville as he won the Pole, led 33% of the laps, ran every lap in the Top 15, had the best Driver Rating, and won the race
He’s finished 1st and 5th in the 2 Next Gen Nashville races while running 93% of his laps in the Top 15, and having a 123.85 Avg. Driver Rating
Outlook for this weekend
Ross Chastain has not been flashy by any means this year, but what he’s lacked in flash he’s made up for in solid runs. However, he’s struggled to get Stage Pts but he’s done alright in Intermediate race stages, but he hasn’t be too good in the races and finishing the races. Then again, this week is Nashville where Chastain has been tremendous in the Next Gen car, even getting 5.25 Stage Pts Per Stage. In total, Chastain may not have the best run this weekend, but with it being Nashville I’d say he’s a shoe-in for a Top 10 and could finish near the front.
