Cup Series Notable Drivers Statistics & Outlook: New Hampshire

Last week saw the 2nd Midwest race in the last 3 weeks for the Cup Series, and it saw the 2nd Team Penske win in the last 3 weeks in the Cup Series as well with Ryan Blaney bringing home the checkered flag. Next we head out to the Northeast, to our 2nd Small track in 4 weeks for the Cup Series, New Hampshire. I have picked 5 notable drivers to look at, 1 based on 2024 season stats, 1 based on Small track stats, 1 based on the last New Hampshire race, 1 based on their Next Gen New Hampshire stats, and 1 based on the highest in points that wasn’t already picked. Here is a look at those 5 notable drivers 2024 season statistics, along with ranks among drivers in 2024 as well as ranking through 17 races since the Playoffs started in 2004. We will also highlight notable streaks accomplished through the year and at New Hampshire, 2024 Small track (1-1.3 miles) statistics and New Hampshire statistics in the Next Gen car.
Note: any driver in 4 straight Cup outlook articles is not in consideration for the next two, or any driver in 4 of 5 Cup outlook articles is not in consideration for the next one. This resets after they are put back into consideration.
This week not in consideration: Denny Hamlin (4 in a row, 2nd week) & Kyle Larson (4 in a row)

1st in Points – Chase Elliott

Main Points & Outlook
Chase Elliott is notable because of his 2024 stats thru 17 races
Elliott ran 346 of 350 laps in the Top 15 last week at Iowa, got 10 Stage Pts, and was able to finish the race in 3rd place
Thru 17 races he has 0 DNF’s and 0 finishes out of the Top 20 (just the 2nd driver since 2004 to do so) and he has the best Avg. Finish this year (9.12) with the 2nd best Avg. Stage Finish (10.91)
He is currently on a 2 race Top 5 streak and a 2 straight Stage T10 streak, and he also has the longest Stage T10 streak in the Cup Series this year (9)
The only notable New Hampshire streak he has is a 5 straight Stage T10 streak from 2020-2022
In 3 Small track races this year he has just 1 Top 10 finish and his worst finish of the year (19th), but he does have a 6.67 Avg. Stage Finish
At New Hampshire last year Elliott ran only 37% of his laps in the Top 15 and had the 17th best Driver Rating, but he did finish the race in 12th
He’s finished 2nd and 12th in the 2 New Hampshire Next Gen races, but he has just 2 Stage T10’s and has only ran 67% of his laps in the Top 15
Outlook for this weekend
Chase Elliott has been the most consistent driver in the Cup Series this year, in fact he’s the 2nd driver since 2004 to not have a DNF or finish out of the Top 20 thru the first 17 races. However, this week we head to a Small track where he hasn’t faired well this year as his worst finish came on this style, but he has done well in stages. What’s more is that this weekend is New Hampshire where Elliott hasn’t done bad in finishing races in the Next Gen, but last year he struggled to run well. In all, expect Mr. Consistent to be consistent again this weekend in terms of finish, but don’t expect too good of a run in the race.

4th in Points – William Byron

William Byron was able to break his string of bad finishes with a 2nd place finish last week at Iowa. This week he looks to turn his New Hampshire luck around and get his 1st career Cup Top 10 here. Photo by Jonathan Bachman — Getty Images

Main Points & Outlook
William Byron is notable because he sits 4th in points heading into New Hampshire
Last week at Iowa Byron got 7 Stage Pts and ran 96% of his laps in the Top 15 en route to a 2nd place finish, but he didn’t lead any laps
He is tied for most Wins (3), Top 3’s (6), and Top 10’s (10) in 2024; but he only has 1 Stage Win and just the 6th most Stage Pts (105)
His longest Top 10 streak this year is 5 races and his longest Stage T10 streak is 6 stages
The only notable New Hampshire streak he has is a 3 straight Stage T10 streak that got broken in Stage 2 of last years race
He has just 1 Top 15 finish in the 3 Small track races this year while only running 55% of his laps in the Top 15, but he does have 4.33 Stage Pts Per Stage
Last year at New Hampshire Byron led 9 laps and finished 2nd in Stage 1, but he only ran 62% of his laps in the Top 15 and finished 24th in the race
In 2 Next Gen New Hampshire races he’s ran 79% of his laps in the Top 15 while getting 3 Stage T10’s in 4 stages, but he has a best finish of just 11th
Outlook for this weekend
William Byron was able to get his best finish since Martinsville with his 2nd place finish at Iowa last week, and this now has him tied for the most Top 3 finishes in the Cup Series this year. However, that momentum he has may come to an end this weekend as we head to a Small track where he’s ran poor and finished even poorer. Furthermore, this is New Hampshire where he does not have a Top 10 in his career, but he has ran decent in the Next Gen. In all, don’t expect much from Byron this weekend as he probably finishes closer to 20th than 10th.

Main Points & Outlook
Martin Truex Jr. is notable because of his astonishing New Hampshire Next Gen stats
Truex struggled heavily at Iowa last week running just 13% of his laps in the Top 15 and finishing 15th
He is one of just 3 drivers to run 7+ races this year and not get a DNF, but his Wins, Poles, Top 2’s, Top 3’s, Top 5’s, and Top 10’s 2024 Rank above are all just 9th-11th best
Earlier this year he had a 5 race Top 10 streak and an 8 straight Stage T10 streak
He has a lot of New Hampshire streaks, but he is currently on a 2 race Top 5 streak here and a 4 straight Stage Win streak here
At Small tracks this year he’s ran 77% of his laps in the Top 15, has the 4th best Avg. Driver Rating, and he’s led 13% of his laps; but he has just a 14.67 Avg. Finish
In the 2023 New Hampshire race Truex dominated leading 84% of the race, winning Stage 1 and 2, running all 301 laps in the Top 15, and getting a perfect Driver Rating en route to winning the race
He’s been outstanding in the Next Gen at New Hampshire as he’s finished 1st and 4th, ran every lap in the Top 15, and he’s won all 4 stages in the Next Gen car
Outlook for this weekend
The slump continued for Martin Truex Jr. at Iowa last week as he’s now finished 5 straight races out of the Top 10, but the majority of his 2024 stats above are still among the best. Even better is that this weekend is a Small track where he’s ran well for the most part this year and has finished well in 2 of the 3 races. However, the best news is that this is New Hampshire where Truex dominated last year and has been spectacular in the 2 Next Gen races. Overall, expect the slump Truex has been on to be broken this weekend, and don’t be surprised if it gets broken with a trip to victory lane.

6th in Points – Tyler Reddick

The Hamburglar stole Tyler Reddick’s speed last week as his 3 race Top 10 streak went the way of the dodo. He hopes to put that behind him this week at New Hampshire and start a new Top 10 streak. Photo by Sean Gardner — Getty Images

Main Points & Outlook
Tyler Reddick is notable because of his stats in the 3 Small track races this year
At Iowa last week Reddick ran 39% of his laps in the Top 15, but he got 0 Stage Pts and finished a disappointing 22nd at the finish
In 2024 he’s tied for the most Top 10’s, but he has just the 8th best Avg. Finish and he almost has as many finishes out of the Top 20 (5) as in the Top 5 (6)
His longest Top 10 streak this year (5 races) is longer than his longest Stage T10 streak this year (4 stages)
The only notable streaks he has at New Hampshire are his active 1 race Top 10 “streak” and his active 2 straight Stage T10 streak
He’s finished all 3 Small track races this year between 4th and 11th while picking up 5.67 Stage Pts Per Stage, and he has the 2nd best Avg. Driver Rating in the 3 races (105.3)
In the 2023 New Hampshire race Reddick ran just 63% of his laps in the Top 15, but he was able to get 10 Stage Pts and finish the race in 6th
This was his better of the 2 Next Gen New Hampshire races as in the 2 races he’s finished 6th and 21st while running just 52% of his laps in the Top 15
Outlook for this weekend
Tyler Reddick struggled at Iowa last week snapping his 3 race Top 10 strea. Furthermore, this was his 5th finish out of the Top 20 in 2024, but he is still tied for most Top 10’s this year. The Top 10 number may improve after this week as we head to a Small track where Reddick has a worst finish of 11th in the 3 races this year, and overall he’s ran well too. However, this is New Hampshire where he’s struggled to run well in the Next Gen car despite having a Top 10 finish in one of the 2 races. Based on the stats as a whole don’t expect Reddick to be great this weekend, but even if he doesn’t run well he still could get a decent finish.

15th in Points – Joey Logano

Joey Logano has been bad for the better part of 2024. He looks to start righting the ship this weekend at a place he’s had good Next Gen runs at, New Hampshire. Photo by Jonathan Bachman — Getty Images

Main Points & Outlook
Joey Logano is notable because of his race at New Hampshire last year
Despite running 89% of his laps in the Top 15 last week at Iowa Logano got just 5 Stage Pts, but he made up for that by finishing 6th in the race
In 2024 he’s tied for the 2nd most Poles (3), but he has more finishes out of the Top 20 (7) than in the Top 10 (5) and he’s only ran 55% of the laps this year in the Top 15
His longest Top 10 streak this year is only 2 races, and his longest Stage T10 streak this year is just 4 stages
His New Hampshire streaks are much more impressive as in his career here he’s had a 4 race Top 5 streak and 5 race Top 10 streak
In the 3 Small track races this year he’s ran just 24% of his laps in the Top 15 while getting a 69.0 Avg. Driver Rating, but he does have 1 Top 5 finish
Last year at New Hampshire Logano had the 2nd best Driver Rating, ran all but 3 laps in the Top 15, and finished 2nd in the race
He has finishes of 2nd and 24th in the 2 Next Gen races at New Hampshire, but he’s ran 99% of his laps in the Top 15 and has the 2nd best Avg. Driver Rating (103.75)
Outlook for this weekend
To say Joey Logano has struggled in 2024 is an understatement as despite his speed in qualifying his finishes currently have him on the wrong side of the Playoff cutline. What’s worse is that this week is a Small track where he’s ran terrible and has done terrible in stages this year. However, this track is New Hampshire where he’s ran great in the 2 Next Gen races and even finished 2nd in the race here last year. In all, don’t expect much from Logano based on most of the stats, but with this being New Hampshire don’t be surprised if he has a great run.
