Iowa Corn 350
The word of the day was “tires” when it came to discussing what to expect in the Iowa Corn 350. Kyle Busch said pre-race, “I’m banking that it’ll [the race] be different.” And sure enough, different is just what happened.
Three-wide racing throughout the field led to an early caution for Corey LaJoie. Once things got rolling again, drivers settled down, but there was still door-to-door battles and action-packed racing as far as the eye could see.
The first tire failure came with 18 to go in Stage 1, marking an early end to AJ Allmendinger’s day. Ryan Blaney went on to claim the stage win after a heated battle in the closing laps with pole winner, Kyle Larson.
Stage 2 continued the tire woes with Michael McDowell, Zane Smith, Ross Chastain, and Erik Jones hitting the pits unexpectedly. When the dust settled, Larson shook out as the stage winner.
An early caution kicked off Stage 3 as Larson was spun out by Daniel Suarez. Then, the tire gremlin caught up with Chris Buescher on Lap 260 and Busch 10 laps later.
The remainder of the race went green and the sold-out crowd saw Blaney snag the first-ever NASCAR Cup Series win at Iowa Speedway.
Rich MARvelous Move of the Race
There were quite a few moves that turned heads of the Pit Pass Network staff. However, the one that earned the Rich MARvelous Move of the Race came on Lap 80.
While Noah Gragson was in a three-wide battle with John Hunter Nemechek and Ty Gibbs, Nemechek got into Gragson, which sent Gragson sliding up the track.
Gragson somehow kept his No. 10 Stewart-Haas Racing machine out of the wall, affording him the opportunity to finish his race. He did so in P16.
Holy moly, how did @NoahGragson hold on to the No. 10? pic.twitter.com/aSHIhtfWRO
