Ally 400

Denny Hamlin secured the pole for the Ally 400, however his teammate, Christopher Bell took the Stage 1 win. Before drivers could complete the second stage, the rain came and delayed the action for an hour and 21 minutes. Once the track dried, the action resumed with 48 to go in the stage. Once the laps wound down, Bell went on to win Stage 2.

His dominance hit the wall, quite literally, with 72 to go when he broke a toelink and was forced to exit the race.

Numerous cautions early in the final stage shook up the field, and team strategy. Then, the kicker came with two to go as Austin Cindric went spinning down the backstretch.

After five Overtime restarts, Joey Logano managed to have enough fuel to ride off into the Nashville sunset with the win.

Rich MARvelous Move of the Race

The Ally 400 was a relatively enjoyable race – up until two to go. But what stood out the most to our Pit Pass Network staff was Justin Haley. Not so much his finishing position of P13, but where he came from before getting there.

The Rich MARvelous Move of the Race is voted on by Pit Pass Network staff members following the checkered flag of each NASCAR Cup Series race.

Haley was penalized pre-race for unapproved adjustments. This forced him to lose his pit stall selection and start at the rear of the field. Not only that, he had to do a pass through at the start of the race.

All of this combined put him significantly behind the eight ball. However, as the race neared the end (prior to the five Overtimes), he was running in the top 10.

Not for the first time this season, the Rick Ware Racing driver out drove his equipment!

Honorable Mention

Our honorable mention doesn’t go to someone behind the wheel, but to the sun for working so hard. After the race was red flagged on Lap 137 for rain, the track drying crew got to work as soon as they were able, but once the clouds passed and the sun was beating down, the track dried so quickly that it wasn’t even a 90 minute delay.

The time from Cindric’s wreck to checkered flag may have rivaled the rain delay!
