Richmond Raceway
After a small hiatus for the Olympic break, we are headed to Richmond and back to racing this weekend! I don’t know about you, but I have enjoyed watching all the different sports every day. I always find a different Olympic sport that I really get into watching. This year, it has been badminton. Yes, totally different from car racing! But what can I say? It gets exciting!
With the remnants of the hurricane coming up the East Coast, teams and fans might have to dodge raindrops at Richmond Raceway. Could we potentially see more wet-weather tire racing? Will the option tire help the racing in the NASCAR Cup Series on Sunday night? We will have to wait until this weekend to find out.
A couple of our staff will be at the track this weekend, so please say hi if you see us! We would love to meet you! I hope you have a fantastic time if you are headed to the track. If you are looking for attractions and restaurants in the area to try out here are some suggestions.
ATTRACTIONS
- Just 30 minutes north of the track is Kings Dominion. This amusement park is a great option for a family of thrill seekers.
There are over 60 rides, shows, and attractions. Additionally, Soak City, a 20-acre waterpark, is also included in the admission price. With night races, this is a perfect way to spend a bulk of the day (if the rain stays away).
- The Science Museum of Virginia is located just a few miles from the track and comes highly recommended. It has four floors of interactive labs, artifacts, and hands-on experiences, as well as permanent and touring exhibitions from around the world. Who wouldn’t enjoy going into the Dome to see live astronomy shows?
Maybe watching a heart dissection demo is more your speed? The museum is open every day 9:30am to 5pm. There is also a café on site to grab drinks or a bite to eat.
RESTAURANTS
- Sub Rosa Bakery is a wood-fired bakery and stone mill located near downtown Richmond. They are open from 8am to 5pm, Tuesday-Sunday. They source their grains from Virginia and stone mill their own flours.
The breads and pastries they create are extra delicious due to baking in their wood-fired masonry oven. You will want to go early to score the best selection. They have been known to sell out early!
- Hobnob is located just a few minutes from the track and is a great lunch option. Their salads and the eggplant sandwich come highly recommended. If you go for Sunday brunch, I was told the southwestern eggs benedict and the ham and peach biscuits are top notch. The restaurant is open from 11am to 10pm on Wednesday-Saturday, and 9am-3pm on Sundays.
- Lastly, Boulevard Burger & Brew has a laid back retro feel, but the food is anything but boring. You can have your burger with a craft beer, cocktail, or a boozy shake at this restaurant. And there’s not just burgers on the menu! They have hotdogs, salads, and other sandwiches to choose from. I was told the Crafty Belgian Burger was pretty amazing though.
