All-Time Cup Track Stats: Phoenix

Last week at COTA we got to see a clean, great racing, solid finish that saw Christopher Bell become the first driver since Chris Buescher (2023) to win back-to-back Cup races. Now we head to one of the most important tracks on the Cup schedule, since it hosts the Championship race, Phoenix. Down below you will find different statistics from all of the NASCAR Cup races here at Phoenix Raceway ranging from Most Wins to Best Average Finishes by starting position. So read and enjoy these fun fact track stats!
In this post you will only find all-time stats, if you are looking for only active drivers stats or Next Gen stats check out my next article Active/Next Gen Cup Track Stats: Phoenix.
Active Drivers will be highlighted like so
Active means any driver who started a race in the 2025 Cup Series season.

First Winner:
Alan Kulwicki 11/06/1988
Most Recent Winner: Joey Logano 11/10/2024
Worst Starting Positions by Winner
Rank Race Start Pos. Driver Rank Race Start Pos. Driver
1 1995-30 29 Ricky Rudd T6 2012-35 19 Kevin Harvick

3 2017-04 22 Ryan Newman 9 1996-30 17 Bobby Hamilton

T6 1994-30 19 Terry Labonte T10 2013-02 15 Carl Edwards

In the 57 Cup races at Phoenix only 12 times has the winner started 15th or worse, so look for someone starting well this weekend to be the winner.

5 2011-35 34 Matt Kenseth 10 2013-02 21 Mark Martin

Only 10 of 55 Pole winners have finished out of the Top 20 at Phoenix, so it’s safe to say that the Pole winner this weekend will have a decent finish.

2010-35 Carl Edwards

Of the 6 Next Gen races at Phoenix only once has a driver that won the Pole also won the race, so qualifying is important but starting 1st isn’t too important to winning.

No driver has won both stages at Phoenix, so winning stage 1 this weekend may not be a good thing for stage 2.
