Stage 1

Prior to firing engines, the Jeremy Clements Racing team had lots to say about their solid qualifying effort for the weekend. Once the green flag was waved, drivers took it four-wide into Turn One and immediately brought out the caution.

In the chaos, Clements moved up to P12.

Over the next few laps, he went three-wide with his competitors and then began a fall back to P17. He held steady until Lap 14 when Harrison Burton worked his way around the No. 51.

After that, he started to fall even further back, settling in at P20. On Lap 27, he radioed to his team, “Something don’t feel right. Like I’m losing a lot of turn.” As he lost another spot, he said, “The right front might have a problem.”

With six to go in the stage, Clements was lapped by the leader, Justin Allgaier. The goal was now to maintain the Lucky Dog spot. Unfortunately, that did not happen, and when the stage ended, Clements was scored P25, down one lap.

Clements told his team, “It’s like I hit a switch and lost all front turn.”

Stage 2

Before coming in for adjustments, Clements said, “We just lost fuel pressure…I’ve got no power.” A wrecker came to push him to his pit stall to diagnose the issue. The team went to work to get Clements back on track. Once he caught back up, he returned to his team for adjustments and tires.

Kallenbach noted, “We’re behind the gun the rest of the day.” He went on to update his driver on everyone else who ran out of gas and the precarious situation they were now in, as they were assessed with a penalty for an uncontrolled tire.

Clements lined up P34, down two laps, for the second stage. He gained two spots in the opening laps but was unable to make any more ground as the field stretched out single file.

Luck, of some sort, played in his favor when Greg Van Alst and Austin Hill took to pit road on Lap 72.

When the stage ended, the Spartanburg, South Carolina native sat P30, still down two laps.

Stage 3

Clements received adjustments, fuel, and tires. Then, he returned to the track in P28, down two, for the final stage of the race. He gained three positions in the opening laps. With 87 to go, Clements was sitting in the Lucky Dog spot in P24, and the team was hoping for a caution.

As Clements took 63 to go, he lost the Lucky Dog spot as Parker Retzlaff went down a lap.

Fourteen laps later, Kallenbach brought his driver to pit road for the final scheduled stop of the day.

He returned to the track with 45 to go, having lost another lap while on pit road.

Ultimately, all was quiet for the No. 51 team for the remainder of the race. With their unfortunate luck early on, they were stuck in the back of the field, down multiple laps.

Kallenbach noted Clements was running P6 lap times, but not much could be done from three laps behind.

Finally, when the checkered flag waved, Clements was scored P24.
