One of the biggest weekends in motorsports took place last memorial day weekend. While the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 annually take place on the same day (ask Kyle Larson), NASCAR’s Truck and Xfinity teams also had their place in the spotlight in the days preceding those prestigious events.
**Kyle Larson’s bid for a second double of running the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 in the same day fell short, as accidents would cut both races short for Larson**

Matt Mills (#42): Mills returned to Niece Motorsports #42 Chevrolet team this season, in what has become somewhat of a struggle this season. Charlotte provided the boost the team and Mills needed, leading a lap and finishing 7th. Mills’ previous best was a 13th in Rockingham earlier this season.
B.J. McLeod (#07): Spire Motorsports elected to hire veteran owner/driver McLeod for the #07 Chevrolet for the Charlotte weekend. This was by far McLeod’s best shot in decent equipment, and the results did not disappoint. While the result was not what was hoped for, McLeod drove his Spire entry to a 15th place finish.

Timmy Hill (#56): Owner/driver Hill scaled back to a part-time Truck Series entry this season, but the race also had a special meaning for Hill. Honoring Hill’s 500th NASCAR start, Hill’s #56 Toyota had a solid day. Rolling off 27th, the Hill Motorsports driver finished 19th.

Dean Thompson (#26): Xfinity rookie contender Thompson had a solid weekend with his Sam Hunt Racing team in Charlotte. Running his first full slate of Xfinity races this season, Thompson had one of his better runs this season, placing his #26 Toyota in 5th, after starting in 23rd. Thompson’s previous best was a 6th place in Martinsville.
Ryan Ellis (#71): Ellis moved to DGM Racing this season, with hopes of making that next step in his career. While the learning curve with the new team has been steep, Charlotte was a big move in the right direction. Ellis started his Chevrolet in 30th, and went on to collect his first career top ten, and finished 8th.
Jeremy Clements (#51): Clements and his family-owned team have been a presence in the Xfinity Series for years, with each year providing it’s own challenges. 2025 has been a bit of up and down for the 51 team, but got a huge punch in the arm in Charlotte. Clements would start his Chevrolet from 22nd, and finish 15th.

A.J. Allmendinger (#16): Allmendinger rejoined the Kaulig Cup program this season, in an attempt to bring the #16 team up to the level it should be at. Fast forward to Charlotte this past weekend, and that work seems to be showing itself. Starting 5th, the Kaulig driver started 5th and finished 4th.
Michael McDowell (#71): McDowell and his Spire Motorsports #71 team finally broke through in Charlotte, scoring their first top ten together. While McDowell showed his usual qualifying speed (15th), the #71 team and driver showed some muscle, finishing 7th. McDowell’s best finish this season, since joining Spire, is 11th which was earned on three occasions.
Noah Gragson (#4): Gragson joined Front Row Motorsports this season, taking the wheel of their new #4 Ford. Gragson and crew chief Drew Blickensderfer have worked hard to get the team up to speed, which showed itself in Charlotte. Starting and finishing in the top ten, Gragson wheeled his Ford to a 10th place finish.
