Last week at Chicago we saw a familiar sight, SVG in Victory Lane as he’s now won 2 of the 3 Cup races and 3 of the 4 NASCAR races he’s raced in there. Next up we head to another track where it wouldn’t be a surprise to see SVG in Victory Lane again, Sonoma. Down below you will find different statistics from all of the NASCAR Cup races here at Sonoma Raceway ranging from Most Wins to Best Average Finishes by starting position. So read and enjoy these fun fact track stats!
In this post you will only find all-time stats, if you are looking for only active drivers stats or Next Gen stats check out my next article Active/Next Gen Cup Track Stats: Sonoma.
Active Drivers will be highlighted like so
Active means any driver who started a race in the 2025 Cup Series season.

First Winner:
Ricky Rudd 06/11/1989
Most Recent Winner: Kyle Larson 06/09/2024
Worst Starting Positions by Winner
Rank Race Start Pos. Driver Rank Race Start Pos. Driver

3 2013-16 14 Martin Truex Jr. T6 2011-16 11 Kurt Busch

5 2017-16 12 Kevin Harvick 10 2016-16 10 Tony Stewart

Only twice in 35 Sonoma races has a driver won when starting out of the Top 15, but both of those times were drivers starting 30th or worse. So, don’t start between 15th and 29th if you want to win this weekend.

Winning the Pole at Sonoma may be cursed as the last two drivers to win the Pole here have ended up in the table above, and only one Pole winner since 2000 has won the race as shown in the table below.

The 2021 race at Sonoma saw Kyle Larson become the only driver to sweep both stages here, and he won the race as well. He also started 1st, but qualifying was not held.

Continuing with the Mark Martin love (sorta), he is the only driver to lead more than 61% of a race here at Sonoma and not win. So, leading 68 laps this weekend is pretty much a guaranteed win.
