Richmond Raceway

Who else is glad not to see a road course on the schedule for a while? This week, we are headed to one of my favorite tracks, Richmond Raceway. Will we see another exciting finish under the lights? You have to wait until Saturday night to find out!
If you’re headed to Richmond, there are plenty of options to fill your time away from the track, with many parks and museums nearby. If you’re looking for something that appeals to the whole family, here are a few options to consider.

Attractions

Kings Dominion Amusement and Water Park is a great option for those with kids! Located north of the track up I-95, you can spend a day on your own thrill ride aboard many roller coasters and splash yourself silly with water attractions of all kinds. For the little ones, Planet Snoopy will be a big hit! Who doesn’t love the Peanuts gang?!
If you want to venture out a bit further for a nice day trip, Williamsburg is the top attraction east of Richmond.

You can spend the day exploring Colonial Williamsburg or shop till you drop at the massive Premium Outlets.
Another great option located in downtown Richmond is a Riverfront Canal Cruise. Spend an hour touring the city by water along the James River and Kanawha Canal. You will learn the history of the city and the surrounding area while checking out the sights. Bonus – it saves you a bunch of walking to see it on your own. Save your walking for the racetrack!

Restaurants

When you are ready to chow down, we have a few spots for you to check out!
Are you in the mood for a local joint that is no fuss, just good eats? Head to Texas Inn for scrumptious burgers, hot dogs, BBQ, and sides. They are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner till midnight during the week and 2am on weekends. For breakfast, get the Texas Plate meal or the Texas Omelet. For lunch or dinner, you cannot go wrong with a Cheesy Western burger and a side of onion rings. (You can thank me later!)
If you want a little taste of the islands, check out Jamaica House Restaurant.

The owner recreates the food of her childhood with jerk chicken, curry goat, and other Jamaican classics on the menu. Be sure to try the rum pound cake for dessert!
Finally, 521 Biscuits & Waffles is the place to go for breakfast! All of their breakfast sandwiches are delicious, and who can’t go wrong with a kicked-up waffle?

I was told the Raspberry White Chocolate Waffle will make you come back for more.
If you are going to the races this weekend, have a great time! The weather is going to be hot, so it’s a good thing we have night races! Some of our staff will be in attendance. Look for us around the track, we would love to meet you and say hello! If you are watching from home, check out our social media pages for content from the track.
