Who is ready for a trio of night races at Bristol Motor Speedway? The annual fall tradition of all three series taking their turn to race under the lights at the Last Great Coliseum arrives again this weekend. For the Craftsman Truck and Xfinity Series, there is ample excitement for their races. Sure, there is the backdrop of the playoffs as a storyline. However, the intensity of a Bristol night race is enough to keep the fans happy. Then there is the Cup Series. Maybe this time the tire promised will show up as advertised. If so, then there is a strong chance the Bristol Night Race will be entertaining. Either way, there are plenty of drivers to watch this weekend. Who are the Critical Path Security 6 Drivers to Watch for the Bristol Night races?
Each series this weekend will be at a different point of their respective first rounds of the playoffs. The Cup Series is entering their elimination race for the Round of 16. Every driver below the cutline is double-digit points behind. Austin Dillon sits the closest to the line, with only a mere 11 points separating him from Austin Cindric. For the Xfinity Series, Bristol marks the start of their Round of 12. The Craftsman Truck Series will host their second race of the Round of 10. For the two lower series, Bristol will be more about avoiding disaster and capitalizing on the right moments. Meanwhile, the Cup Series should see some Hail Mary attempts being used by the 4 drivers below the cutline.

Joey Logano

Sitting 21 points above the cutline, Joey Logano should feel relatively sound entering Bristol about moving onto the Round of 12. While 21 points can fade away if things go wrong, it is enough of a cushion where the 22 team should not be sweating the cutline. That said, Bristol during the Gen7 era has not been kind to Joey Logano. Through the first 5 Gen7 Bristol races, Logano has finished no better than 22nd. After picking up DNFs in the first two Gen7 starts, the 22 team has managed to finish the race under power in the last 3. Still, the results have been poor.
To add more potential calamity to this weekend is the prospect of high tire wear. Logano struggled in the spring Bristol race in 2024 when the wear was extreme. However, the more concerning aspect of this rumored right side tire is Ford’s recent history. In 2022 and 2023, Ford consistently experienced tire failures during the Bristol Night Race. A tire failure was the reason for Logano’s early exit in 2022. While Ford has certainly made an adjustment since, the prospect of this tire foreshadows more trouble for the manufacturer. With Logano’s cutline lead not insurmountable, a blown tire that leads to a DNF could lead to an early elimination. The name of the game for the 22 team on Saturday will be to avoid catastrophe.
John Hunter Nemechek

Over the past 3 races, one of the hottest drivers in the field has been John Hunter Nemechek. Although Daytona did not end too promisingly, Nemechek ran well on the superspeedway before his issues dropped him down the leaderboard. However, the past 2 weekends have seen the 42 car consistently run competitively with the top drivers. Darlington could have been chalked up to some Erik Jones skill rubbing off on the young driver. However, Nemechek held his own at Gateway while his teammate floundered lower in the running order. This recent string of solid races is not only promising for Nemechek, but Legacy Motor Club as a whole.
Shifting focus ahead to Bristol, John Hunter Nemechek will look to keep the momentum going on the half mile short track. If this new tire ends up replicating the 2024 spring Bristol race, Nemechek would potentially benefit greatly. Through 5 Bristol Cup starts, the Legacy driver has only managed to pick up one Top-10. That lone Top-10 was the tire wear race in 2024. Not only did Nemechek pick up a Top-10, but he was the first car off the lead lap. The prospect of managing tires at Bristol should not be a daunting one for Nemechek. If that is the way the race unfold, then it could be a great day for the 42 team. Based on his recent results, watch for John Hunter Nemechek to be a potential playoff spoiler on Saturday night.

Brandon Jones

Brandon Jones’s return to Joe Gibbs Racing has been a successful one. After two miserable seasons driving for JRM, Jones returned to his comfort zone with JGR. Now back with Toyota, Jones has won his way into the playoffs and enters the Round of 12 sitting 8 points above the cutline. In the regular season, Jones collected 5 Top-5s and averaged a 15.0 place finish. While still far from impressing the majority of the fanbase, the Xfinity driver has made the most of his rebound season. The question moving forward now is whether Jones can ride this moderate success to a deep playoff run.
Bristol opening up the playoffs should be a welcome sight for Brandon Jones. Back in the spring, Jones finished in the Top-5 while picking up points in both stages. Another performance like that would be a boost to his odds of advancing to the Round of 8. The cutline battle in this round should be a close one. It has been a top heavy year for the Xfinity Series. That has left the bottom half of the Top-10 to be influx for much of the season. With a slim cutline advantage, the 20 team has to take full advantage of their strength at Bristol. The next 2 races in this round are not Jones’s best tracks, so expect the 20 team to be aggressive in maxing their points on Friday night.
Brennan Poole

Brennan Poole has put together a quietly solid season with Alpha Prime Racing. Through the first 23 races, Poole has picked up 4 Top-10s while averaging a 18.2 finish. Of those Top-10s, two have come on short tracks. His first Top-5 of the season at Martinsville locked him into the Dash for Cash at Bristol. Before wrecking out, Poole put on a good showing as he competed for the extra $100,000. With that promise shown in the spring, there should be optimism for the driver of the 44 car.
With his performances on short tracks this season, Brennan Poole will be a compelling driver to keep tabs on during the Food City 300. Unless bizarre circumstances unfold, Poole will not be battling for the race win. However, this Alpha Prime Racing team has demonstrated the ability to get their driver into the Top-10. The execution on Friday night will have to be flawless though. No pit road mistakes nor driver errors can occur if Poole wants to pick up his fifth Top-10.

Corey Heim

It might seem like a foregone conclusion that Corey Heim will pick up another win on Thursday night. Heim already kicked off the playoffs by winning the first race at Darlington in strong fashion. Based on his short track skills, why should anyone expect anything less than Heim Time on Thursday? Well, the last Truck Series race at Bristol saw a rarity in the 2025 season: a non-dominate performance by Heim. While Heim certainly found himself in contention, Chandler Smith was the driver to lead the most laps and eventually win. Heim mustered a Top-5 with 16 laps led, but it was a surprising miss from this TRICON team.
Expanding beyond Bristol, Heim is going to be in the spotlight throughout the rest of the season. On track, the question is whether his dominate season will rightfully end with Heim hoisting the championship trophy. With the current playoff format, there is no guarantee Heim will walk away from Phoenix with the trophy in hand. If he fails to win the championship, NASCAR social media will raise hell. Off the track, the silly season tracker for Heim is interesting. Despite seeming more than ready for Cup, Heim will again miss out on a fulltime Cup ride. Part time starts seem to be in-line for the young driver, but a fulltime Xfinity Series season seems to be on tap.
Parker Kligerman

The last time Parker Kligerman climbed behind the wheel of a NASCAR vehicle, he piloted JRM’s 88 car to victory lane in Daytona. Kligerman did not receive credit for the win as he replaced the injured Connor Zilisch mid-race. One of the previous times Kligerman drove the 75 truck was at Daytona, where he crossed the line first but did not get credited with a win. What a weird season for the semi-retired CW analyst. One of his other starts in the 75 truck was the spring Bristol race. There, Kligerman managed a lead-lap finish after starting last on the grid.
Looking ahead to Thursday night, Parker Kligerman will be one to watch. The 75 Henderson Motorsports entry might be a bit off from the top teams, but Kligerman has managed to wheel that truck to victory lane before. Granted, that occurred on a road course rather than a short track. However, Kligerman usually finds a way to be competitive in most of the vehicles he competes in. While it would be a shock to see Kligerman dicing it up for the win, a solid Top-10 day is not out of the picture.
