What seems to be getting lost in the discourse this week is how good the race was on Sunday. While the ROVAL has been a controversial topic in the Gen7 era, this past Sunday’s race was an entertaining one. Sure, Shane van Gisbergen won his fifth straight road course race. However, the result was in more doubt than usual. With a great tire by Goodyear, there were differing strategies at play, plus two playoff drivers were challenging the New Zealander throughout the running. However, the primary talking point is centering around a Hail Melon move by Ross Chastain to advance to the Round of 8. What a shame. Luckily, the FitStop Performance 2025 Week 32 Power Rankings requires no playoff threshold. Can the ROVAL cause more alterations than Kansas did for Week 31?

#10 – Tyler Reddick

Previous Ranking: 10

Hanging onto the final spot again this week is Tyler Reddick. It was a confusing day for Reddick, who was eliminated from the playoffs after his Top-10. The 45 team seemed to be split on which strategy to employ: points or race win. With no clear direction, Reddick remained distant from the front and any serious conversation of moving to the Round of 8.

#9 – Chase Elliott

Previous Ranking: 9

What a quiet Top-10 for Chase Elliott. While he scored point in both stages, Elliott was not a prominent player in the race. Via his win last week, Elliott’s spot in the Round of 8 was already secured. Outside of attempting to win Stage 2, there was little for Elliott to race for this week. Still, a Top-10 is a solid day.

#8 – Bubba Wallace

Previous Ranking: 6

Heading into the Round of 12, there were only a couple of drivers with more momentum than Bubba Wallace. That came crashing down during this round though. A bad day at New Hampshire followed up with his owner dooring him out of a win sealed Wallace’s fate heading into the ROVAL.

#7 – Chris Buescher

Previous Ranking: 8

Bumping up a spot this week is Chris Buescher. Picking up his 5th Top-5 of the season, Buescher seldomly left the Top-5. While the 17 did not have the speed of the Top-3, Buescher found himself in between the top bunch and the rest of the field. With 4 races left to go, the RFK Racing driver only needs 2 more Top-10s to set a new career high.

#6 – William Byron

Previous Ranking: 5

Everyone is still waiting for William Byron to click during his playoff run. Thanks to a strong regular season, Byron has been able to coast through the first two rounds. With things being tighter in the Round of 8, the question is whether the 24 team will show out in these next 3 races. The ROVAL was another race where Byron ran well, but severely lacked in competitive speed. Since the start of the playoffs, there has only been one race where Byron felt competitive.

#5 – Christopher Bell

Previous Ranking: 7

There were moments during the ROVAL where it looked to be Christopher Bell’s day to beat Shane van Gisbergen. He got the better of the road course aficionado a couple times during the running. However, the 20 team did not play the right tire strategy to give their driver the best chance at the win. Still, it was an impressive drive for Bell who has the lone non-SVG road course win this season.

#4 – Denny Hamlin

Previous Ranking: 3

The most notable thing Denny Hamlin did in this race was getting wrecked by Ross Chastain on the final turn. Other than that, there is little to note of Hamlin’s day. Onto the Round of 8.

#3 – Kyle Larson

Previous Ranking: 4

Kyle Larson looked to be the one who could have upset Shane van Gisbergen. Leading 27 laps, Larson took the fight to SVG on Sunday. After van Gisbergen attempted an aggressive pass in Turn 7, Larson badgered the 88 for the remainder of the lap. That paid off with Larson escaping with the lead for all of one whole lap. After that, SVG took the lead and pulled away.

#2 – Chase Briscoe

Previous Ranking: 1

An ill-feeling Chase Briscoe unfortunately falls out of the top spot this week. It was a tough call between Briscoe and the current number 1. However, Briscoe fell a tad shy of three-peating in the rankings.

#1 – Ryan Blaney

Previous Ranking: 2

Two things worked in favor of Ryan Blaney recapturing the top spot in the FitStop Performance Power Rankings. First of all, Blaney did best Chase Briscoe by a single spot in the results. Secondly, Blaney won Stage 2. Combined with his recent runs that include the New Hampshire win, it was tough to keep Blaney in second. However, it is only a slim lead heading into Las Vegas. Will Blaney be able to hang on next week?

Honorable Mention

Ross Chastain – Two costly mistakes on pit road jeopardized Ross Chastain’s advancement in the playoffs. More importantly, it kept him out of the Power Rankings this week.

Joey Logano – He can’t keep getting away with this. Joey Logano survives a bad day at the ROVAL to move through to the Round of 8 to crush the hopes and dreams of all non-Logano fans everywhere.

Ryan Preece – You have to applaud Ryan Preece’s improvements on the road course this season. His 6th place finish on Sunday marked a career best as well as his third Top-10 on a road course.
