Roulette Recap follows a randomly selected driver throughout a race to break down their efforts. There is no telling ahead of time how the race will go. The driver could face calamity on the opening lap or start from the rear and win the race. With that, may the odds be ever in the driver’s favor.

The LiUNA!

Driver: Blaine Perkins
Organization & Number: Jordan Anderson Racing, #31
Crew Chief: Cody McKenzie
Spotter: Jason Jarrett
Qualified: P33

Stage 1

Blaine Perkins immediately found himself three-wide and ready to charge forward. The first caution came when Jeremy Clements went for a slide after contact with Connor Zilisch. Perkins had lost a position and gained it back before noting, “A touch free.”

Perkins lined up P29 to resume racing on Lap 6, and within three laps, he was in a battle with Josh Williams. Eventually, Perkins got around the No. 92 to claim P26.

The next caution came on Lap 14 when Austin Green went for a spin.

Perkins updated his team, saying, “Definitely pretty loose through the whole corner.” He was running P25.

With a few drivers taking to the pits, he lined up P23, intending to make it to the end of the stage. He quickly gained a position and fluctuated between two- and three-wide. However, as the run ran long, he fell back to P32.

With the stage in the books, he was scored P31.

He let his team know he was still free in and out of the corners.

Stage 2

Crew Chief Cody McKenzie brought his driver to the pits for a round of adjustments and sent him back out with some encouragement.

Perkins saw the start of the second stage from P27. He quickly gained a position. However, the caution came out for Clements again, and Perkins was sitting P28, noting he was still “too free.”

McKenzie opted to keep Perkins on track, and the No. 31 restarted P25 on Lap 63. He made up a position before falling back to P30. With 15 to go, he lost another position, and five laps later, he noted the car felt the same.

When the green and white checkered flag waved, Perkins sat P32. The complaint was the same, “Fired off the same…Whatever that was, wasn’t it.”

Stage 3

McKenzie took a different swing at the car for the final stage. Perkins lined up P29 for the start of the final stage, which marked 103 laps remaining in the race.

The caution came out with 82 to go as Dean Thompson went for a spin. Perkins was running P27 and noted it was “the best it’s fired off all day.” He also noted he was learning how to better “run the top in (Turns) 1 and 2.”

A good stop saw the adjustments McKenzie wanted. Unfortunately, Perkins was caught speeding onto pit road, so the team opted for a splash of gas before lining up at the tail-end of the longest line. That saw him P31 with 77 to go.

He quickly gained two spots before finding himself in the middle of three. He was sitting P29 when the caution waved again.

McKenzie opted to pit, top off on fuel, and make another minor adjustment. This allowed Perkins to line up P23 with 63 to go. Following a great deal of shuffling on the restart, he landed in P28.

Ten laps later, Taylor Gray slammed the wall and brought out the caution. Perkins was sitting P29 and noted he had “lost center turn again.”

McKenzie opted to bring his driver in for fresh tires, not knowing if they’d have another chance to work on the car.

With 47 to go, Perkins lined up P26. Ten laps later, he had gained a position. Within another 10 laps, he was battling Anthony Alfredo while being told, “You’re faster than he is.”

Despite being unable to work his way around Alfredo, Perkins was encouraged in the closing laps regarding his lap times and the lanes he was running.

As he took 11 to go, Kyle Larson, with a nearly three-second lead on the field, put Perkins a lap down.

In the closing laps, he was able to gain one spot when Alfredo took to the pits.

The checkered flag waved, and Perkins claimed P22 on the day.

McKenzie told his driver, “Way to fight.” Perkins thanked his team, and they loaded up to head east and prepare for Darlington.

NASCAR fans know sponsors make the sport go ’round. We want to give a shoutout to City Lights Shine, who played a huge part of the weekend for Blaine and the No. 31 team.
