Brandon McReynolds – Q&A

What is it like being the spotter for a winning NASCAR Cup Series driver? It is great spotting for Ross Chastain and the Trackhouse organization. To be a small part of success at the top level of our industry is something that I truly appreciate.
What is the most memorable moment in your racing career? I would say winning Talladega back in 2012 for Turner Motorsports. I really felt like that win was most meaningful especially with my dad, Larry McReynolds being from the great state of Alabama. To win at the biggest track in front of your family’s hometown crowd is something I will never forget.
What is your favorite track/city to visit during the racing season? I think Austin, TX is a lot of fun and downtown Indianapolis. For sure the best racetrack would have to be Martinsville or Bristol.
Do you have any other team duties at Trackhouse besides being a spotter?
No

You are the Managing Partner at Clear 28. What is your favorite part of that job? My favorite part of working at Clear 28 is seeing growth potential and amazing leadership. I have never worked at a company in my entire life that is so supportive and always driven to think outside of the box and to be proactive. Coming to the office each morning is comfortable which is hard to find, but our entire team is on the same page while also pushing each other to think bigger and more creatively.
While racing, did you have a pre-race routine? If so, what was it? HAHA, I always put my right shoe on before my left and once I got into the car, I always put my right glove on before my left glove. I have no idea why. Racecar drivers don’t make sense sometimes.
What is the toughest part about being a spotter? I think it is easy to let your guard down especially at the superspeedway races. Talladega and Daytona are very challenging. I also think it is important to be looking for ways to help the driver go faster, not just talk about the cars behind.
If you could go back in time and change one thing in your racing career, what would it be? In 2014, I would have worked on being more in the moment while I was driving for Bill McAnally on the west coast in the ARCA West Series No.16 NAPA car. I spent that entire year thinking I should be racing in the truck series and to be honest, I was trying to look too far down the road. The statement you hear from athletes/coaches is so true. “Focus on what is in front of you”, “don’t get too far ahead and let your world get too big”. We ran well that year, but I missed opportunities to win on-track because I had my head in the wrong place.

Any plans of going racing anytime soon? We would love to see you back in a car! I would love to hop back in a super late model or something fun like that. No plans as of now. It does cost a lot of money, but I would like to put something together. Those cars are awesome! All the left side weight and horsepower. Doesn’t get any better.
