Brayton Laster – Q&A

Brayton Laster is a 20-year-old Truck Series Driver for Reaume Brothers Racing as well as an Arca Menards Series Driver for Mullins Racing.

Do you have a pre-race routine? If so, what is it? I wish I could say I had a pre-race routine, typically in a big race at the ARCA or Truck level, I just try to keep myself cool, calm, and collected, whether that be by eating pizza and interacting with friends and family. I try not to let the environment and the fact that I am about to race on one of the biggest stages in motorsports overwhelm me. I always try to drink a lot of water leading up to a race, even if it means I become best friends with the bathroom urinals, but depending on the track and race, they can beat the life out of you.

What is the most memorable moment in your racing career so far? My most memorable moment in my racing career would have to be Daytona weekend this past February, it was my first ever ARCA Menards Series start and my first time actually being at a NASCAR track during a race weekend, and to get to experience everything from the driver’s seat was an absolute dream come true. I never thought I would be able to get to watch a race at Daytona International Speedway in person, let alone race there. One of my all-time favorite memories from that weekend would have to be the group qualifying. ARCA does group qualifying at Daytona so we knew we had a decent shot at starting in the front half of the field, even with my lack of experience. I went out and went P2 out of 12 cars that had gone out already, and a video surfaced from pit road of my parents hugging each other and crying, watching that video was definitely an emotional tear-jerker for me.

If you could go back in time and change one thing in your racing career, what would it be? If I could change anything about my racing career it would be nothing, I’ve raced everything from Super Dirt Late Models to School Buses on a Figure-8, it has been a wild 12 years and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I’ve met so many awesome people along the way and made so many memories that I thought I would never even get close to making.

What is your favorite track to race at? (Any Series) Talladega or Daytona would have to be my favorite track to run, I ran at both tracks this year in the ARCA Menards Series, and there is absolutely nothing that compares to those tracks. There’s just a special feeling about going 180+ miles an hour when you’ve got a group of cars around you going the same speed, the worse part is when you wreck and try to slow down though.

What is one goal that you have for the remainder of 2022? Our biggest goal as we dwindle down in the 2022 racing season would be to make the starting field for the Gateway Dirt Nationals in December, it is one of the biggest dirt late model races in the country that takes place every December in the Dome in St. Louis, Currently they have 144 drivers registered, including Carson Hocevar, going for I believe 24 spots in the main event. If we could make that show that would be one of the biggest moments in my racing career by a long shot.

What is one goal that you hope to accomplish in the future? A goal I wish to accomplish in the future would be to win a race in the ARCA Menards Series, I think it’s very possible with the people I have surrounded myself with, especially coming next season I think we have a really good shot at it. To win at that level would be absolutely monumental for me, I always tell people I could retire right now at 20 years old and be satisfied with where my racing career has come, but if I won a race at that level I would definitely be content retiring then and there.

Any set racing plans for 2023? For 2023 we will still be racing at the local level where I’ve always raced, from a combination of Crown Vics and Street Stocks to our Super dirt late models, and then some bigger races on a bigger level, would love to say exactly what but I’m gonna keep that cat in the hat for now.

We have to ask – what is your favorite kind of Pizza? And pineapples on or off? Pineapple on pizza is a big no, I’m a pretty Plain Jane when it comes to pizza, I like a good thick crust with lots of sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. I don’t really have a preference as its hard to find a bad pizza and I’m typically pretty diverse about where I get my pizza from.
