Outside the Track: Chicago

This weekend the traveling circus is headed to the windy city of Chicago, Illinois. Who would have ever guessed NASCAR would construct a street course in the middle of a major city? Not me! NASCAR will put on a show this weekend. Not sure what kind yet, but a show nonetheless. If you are going to the races this weekend, I hope you have a wonderful time!
I have never been to Chicago, but I do have friends that live and work in the Chicago area who were nice enough to give me attraction and restaurant suggestions for NASCAR fans who will be coming to town for the races.

ATTRACTIONS

  • Navy Pier
Right down the street from all the NASCAR action is a place the whole family can enjoy. Shopping, restaurants, parks, kid’s rides, the Centennial Wheel, and Chicago Children’s Museum. All are located at the Navy Pier and that will be the place to be Saturday night! Watch the 4th of July fireworks overlooking the water!
  • Willis Tower
Formerly known as the Sears Tower, it stands 110 stories high and is one of the largest skyscrapers in the world. There are a variety of restaurants and a sky deck where you can take in the whole Chicago view. You can even walk out on a glass ledge on the 103rd floor. But you will never see me do that!
  • Chicago Riverwalk
Located along the Chicago River, this is a great place to grab a bite to eat and then take a leisurely scenic stroll to check out the boats passing by and the Chicago architecture.

RESTAURANTS

  • Giordano’s
With multiple locations around Chicago, this is the place to go if you are in the mood for Italian food.
  • Au Cheval
An upscale diner that I was told has the best burgers in Chicago. (Someone, please report back to confirm!)
  • Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria
This restaurant has multiple locations in Chicago. I was told there are tons of places to get pizza but if you want the best deep-dish pizza, then go here. (Again, someone please go try this and let us know the verdict!)
  • Prime & Provisions Steakhouse
A friend said this is the place to “go big or go home” and live like a baller for a night. You will drop a pretty penny for your lunch or dinner, but it’s worth it just one time in your life for the experience and delicious food.

If you happen to visit one of these attractions or restaurants, let us know! Also, if you’re a Chicago native, let us know your favorite spots.
