Craftsman Truck Series Notable Drivers Statistics & Outlook: Texas

Christian Eckes and Ty Majeski dominated last week at Martinsville leading all but 1 of the 200 laps. In the end Eckes won the battle and got the win. Up next is a showdown in the Lone Star State at Texas. I have picked 5 notable drivers to look at, 1 based on 2024 season stats, 1 based on Intermediate stats, 1 based on the last Texas race, 1 based on their Texas stats over the last 5 Truck seasons, and 1 based on the highest in points that wasn’t already picked. Here is a look at those 5 notable drivers 2024 season statistics, along with ranks among drivers in 2024 as well as ranking through 6 races since the Playoffs started in 2016. We will also highlight notable streaks accomplished through the year and at Texas, 2023/24 Intermediate (1.3-1.5 mile) statistics and Texas statistics from the past 5 Truck seasons.
Note: any driver in 3 straight Truck outlook articles is not in consideration for the next two, or any driver in 3 of 4 Truck outlook articles is not in consideration for the next one. This resets after they are put back into consideration.
This week not in consideration: Ty Majeski (3 in a row)

2nd in Points – Corey Heim

Corey Heim has had a strong start to the season and if he runs like he has at Intermediates of late he’ll continue that strong start at Texas this weekend. Photo by James Gilbert — Getty Images

Main Points & Outlook
Corey Heim is notable because of how well he’s done on Intermediate tracks since the start of 2023
Heim started 4th and finished there in Stage 1 last week at Martinsville, but the rest wasn’t as good as he ended up running only 81% of his laps in the Top 15 and finishing 10th
Thru 6 races in 2024 he has the best Avg. Finish (4.17), most Top 2’s, Top 3’s, Top 5’s, and Top 10’s; what’s more is his worst 2024 Rank above is just 6th (9.08 Avg. Stage Finish)
He is currently on a 6 race Top 10 streak and earlier in the year had a 3 race Top 3 streak
The only streaks he has at Texas are his active 2 race Top 10 streak and 4 straight Stage T10 streak
He’s been great in the last 9 Intermediate races scoring a 4.11 Avg. Finish with an incredible 120.04 Avg. Driver Rating, 4 Stage Wins, and a worst finish of 8th; but 0 Wins
At Texas last year Heim finished 7th in every stage of the race and ran every lap in the Top 15, ending with the 5th best Driver Rating (100.5)
In his 2 career races at Texas he has a modest 93.35 Avg. Driver Rating, has finished in the Top 10 of all 4 stages, and finished 7th in both races
Outlook for this weekend
Corey Heim has been the best driver overall this year in the Truck Series as he is the only driver to finish all 6 races in the Top 10. The news only gets worse for the competition this weekend as we head to an Intermediate track where he’s finished no worse than 8th since the start of 2023, but he also hasn’t won. Furthermore, this weekend is Texas where he only knows how to finish 7th apparently. So, this weekend expect a strong run and good finish from Heim, but don’t expect a Win from him.

3rd in Points – Tyler Ankrum

Tyler Ankrum has done well to start his inaugural season with McAnally-Hilgemann Racing and hopes to continue that start this weekend at a place where his teammate has been great, Texas. Image credit: @BMR_NASCAR Twitter/X Page

Main Points & Outlook
Tyler Ankrum is notable because he’s 3rd in points
Ankrum had a good race at Martinsville last week picking up 13 Stage Pts, running 93% of his laps in the Top 15 and finishing 5th
He has a 9.17 Avg. Finish this year but what’s got him 3rd in points are his 2nd best Stage T10’s (11), Stage Pts (74), and 3rd best Avg. Stage Finish (4.92)
He is currently riding a 6 straight Stage T10 streak, and earlier this year had a 3 race Top 10 streak
At Texas he’s had a 3 straight Top 10 streak in 2019-20 and a 2 straight Stage T10 streak twice
Intermediates haven’t been great for him since the start of last year as he has a 15.33 Avg. Finish with only 1 Top 5 in 9 races, and he’s only ran 51% of his laps in the Top 15
Texas last year was not good for Ankrum as he ran just 26% of his laps in the Top 15 en route to a 26th place finish with 0 Stage Pts
He’s ran all 7 Texas Truck races since the beginning of 2019 and has a decent 84.43 Avg. Driver Rating with 4 Top 10’s, but also 2 finishes out of the Top 20
Outlook for this weekend
Tyler Ankrum has done well with his new team to start 2024 as he’s especially done well in stages, and is in fact on a 6 straight Stage T10 streak. However, this weekend is an Intermediate where he hasn’t ran well since the start of last year getting just 4 Top 10’s and only running half the laps in the Top 15. One of the worst of these races was at Texas where he ran and finished bad. This isn’t typical of Ankrum at Texas since the start of 2019 as he has 4 Top 10’s in the 7 races. All in all the stats say expect Ankrum to run at least decent this weekend with a finish near or in the Top 10.

4th in Points – Christian Eckes

Christian Eckes is the first driver to 2 Wins this year after his win at Martinsville last week. This weekend, at Texas, he hopes to be the first to 3 Wins also. Image credit: @BMR_NASCAR Twitter/X Page

Main Points & Outlook
Christian Eckes is notable because of his 2024 season stats
Eckes was great last week at Martinsville winning both stages, leading 67% of the laps, running 97% of his laps in the Top 15, and winning the race
In 2024 he has just a 9.67 Avg. Finish, but he has 2 Wins (also just 2 Top 5’s) with 5 Top 10’s and he’s tied for the most Stage Wins at 3
He is riding a 2 straight Stage Win streak and a 4 race Top 10 finish streak
He’s had success at Texas but the best streak he has here is a 4 straight Stage T10 streak in which he is currently on
In the last 9 Intermediate track races he has 2 Wins and 5 Top 10’s with 2 finishes out of the Top 20, but also just 2 Top 5’s and 1 Stage Win
Last year at Texas Eckes ran every lap in the Top 15 and had the 2nd best Driver Rating, but he got wrecked battling for the lead on the last lap to finish 15th
In his 4 races since the start of 2019 at Texas he’s ran 100% of his laps in the Top 15, but even with 2 Top 2 finishes he has just 2 Top 10’s and 0 Wins with 1 DNF
Outlook for this weekend
Christian Eckes became the first driver to technically punch his ticket to the playoffs this year as he now has 2 Wins on the young 2024 season. This bodes well for him as we are heading to an Intermediate track where he’s done well since the start of 2023 scoring 2 Wins and running 90% of his laps in the Top 15. One of these great races was last year at Texas, but he didn’t get the finish he deserved. This kind of goes with him at Texas as he’s ran well in all his races, but has either sank or swam in terms of finish. Overall, watch out for Eckes to be a contender all race this weekend, but he’ll either wreck or finish great.

5th in Owner Points – Kyle Busch

Kyle Busch has only won 1 of his 3 Truck races this year. He hopes that a track he’s been great at, Texas, will make him 2 for 4 in the Truck Series after this weekend. Photo by Meg Oliphant — Getty Images

Main Points & Outlook
Kyle Busch is notable because of his Truck stats at Texas since the start of 2019
In Busch’s last Truck race (Bristol) he won Stage 1 and 2, ran all 250 laps in the Top 15, and led 105 laps; but despite a late charge finished 2nd in the race to Christian Eckes
He’s had a bit of a sluggish 2024 Truck season as he has just a 6.0 Avg. Finish with only 2 Top 10’s, but 1 Win and 2 Top 2’s in the 3 races he’s ran while having the best Laps in Top 15% and Avg. Driver Rating
He’s on active 2 straight Stage Win streak and 6 straight Stage T10 streak in races he’s competed in
In 2008 he finished 2 straight races in the Top 2 at Texas and in the Spring 2019 race finished both stages in the top 10, these are his only streaks here at Texas
He’s raced in 3 Intermediate Truck races since the start of last year scoring 1 Win, but also just 1 Top 5 and 2 Top 15’s
Busch did not race in the Texas Truck race last year
He’s raced 2 Truck races at Texas in the last 5 years winning both races, leading an incredible 54% of the laps, running 99.68% of his laps in the Top 15, and getting an outstanding 146.7 Avg. Driver Rating
Outlook for this weekend
Kyle Busch has had a bit of a slow start to his 2024 Truck campaign, considering he’s Kyle Busch and should win every Truck race he enters. However, since the start of last year he hasn’t exactly dominated Intermediate races, but this is Texas. In his last 2 starts at Texas in the Truck Series Busch has been nothing less than amazing as he’s dominated both races en route to winning both races. Based on these stats Busch is definitely the favorite this weekend despite not all of his stats above being great.

6th in Points – Nick Sanchez

Nick Sanchez got his first Top 5 since the 2nd race of the year last week at Martinsville. This week he hopes to have the same kind of race he did last year at Texas, minus the last lap crash. Image credit: @RevRacin Twitter/X Page

Main Points & Outlook
Nick Sanchez is notable because of the incredible race he put together at Texas last year
Sanchez was the only driver to lead a lap last week at Martinsville not named Eckes or Majeski, he also ran 95% of the laps in the Top 15 and finished 4th
This was his first Top 5 since Atlanta and 3rd on the season. In addition he has an 8.92 Avg. Stage Finish and a 10.33 Avg. race Finish
The only streaks he has this year were his 2 race Top 5 finish streak at the start of the year and a 4 straight Stage T10 streak
In terms of Texas streaks he is on a 1 straight Pole “streak” and a 2 straight Stage Win streak
He’s ran well at Intermediates in the last 9 races having a 98.02 Avg. Driver Rating and 3 Poles, but he has 0 Wins, 1 Top 5, and only 4 Top 10’s also
Last year at Texas Sanchez dominated leading all but 4 laps in the race, winning both stages, and getting a 127.3 Driver Rating; but a last lap wreck caused him to finish 16th
This is his only race at Texas in a truck and thus his stats here are amazing in terms of in-race stats, but his finish stats aren’t as great
Outlook for this weekend
Nick Sanchez got off to a great start in the first 2 races of the 2024 season, but it’s been a bit of a lag since then as last week was his first Top 5 in the last 4 races. However, this momentum comes at the right time as he’s ran well on Intermediates since the start of 2023, but he hasn’t always had the finishes to prove it. The best example is last year at Texas where he dominated but got wrecked to finish 16th. This is his only start at Texas and thus based on the stats it seems Sanchez is one of the few Truck drivers that could win this weekend.
